chain master link questions

did a search, and did not see any info on this.

I now there have been numerous threads on master links and not using clip links on sport bikes for obvious reasons, but what about screw links?

Are these usable? I so, should they be used with Loctite?
is there a chance that they might interfere with a chain guard of the front sprocket case?

I've never heard of screw links. How about a link to what you found?

I've always been content with riveted master links, and run DID chains on my bikes after a bad experience with RK chain. You get what you pay for.
 
I wouldn't mind one of these in an emergency kit. What do the reviews say about them?
 
Doing a little digging on these, seems like they are specific to EK chains, and not recommended for anything more than 140hp. I wouldn't use it unless you are using the specific chain type they are made for. A decent chain breaker and rivet tool is not expensive and well worth the investment.
 
I bought a motion pro riveter and breaker from McBride cycle years ago, and other than replacing a bent pin, it's worked well.

I prefer riveted master links for the strength.
 
I have used the screw-type master link in question in the past. Dirt simple to install. It is tricky to source locally, and you need to be careful that it matches the chain type you are using exactly (except for colour, but you might want that to match anyway :P. The screws do not actually hold the link on, it is more like a rivet link with the press built-in to the link (so there is no taking them off, either). I guess there could be clearance issues, but bikes that use sealed o-ring chains generally have generous clearance to begin with.

Really, the only two cons to it IMO are actually sourcing the screw-type master links, and that they don't look as clean as a normal rivet link.
 
I don't see how that can fail. Once its properly torqued & have some red loctite, should be good

No loctite. The nuts are not permanent, they are only used during installation
 
It looks to me like like it should be every bit as good as a regular rivet link, but has to be made for the specific chain you are using. I have a good rivet tool so not really a help for me.

For the OP, as long as it is for the chain you have I don't see any reason not to use it.
