Chain fell off Ninja 250, please help!

Hi guys, I am a new rider and I do not know much about bikes.
I have a 250 Ninja Kawasaki 2005. Today I was making a slow turn in 2nd gear when all of a sudden my bike shut off :(. I realized my chain fell off and I was unable to put the motorcycle in gear (it is stuck in neutral). A box on the left side just above the shifter cracked, ( i think it is the box that covers the chain- but I'm not sure).... Anyway, I live in Bolton.... and I was wondering if somebody that is experienced with this technical stuff could take a look at it... or perhaps give me some advice....

THANKS

Take some pictures and post them here. There might be a lot more damage then a simple chain that came off.

By the way, how did the chain come off?

Do you check and adjust the tension?

I will post some up tomorrow, the chain has been cleaned but hasn't been lubed in a long time. To be honest, I have no idea how it came off, it's just basically hanging at the back. I haven't adjusted the tension, I've had no problems with it.

You mean you haven't had problems until your chain fell off, right? Read the manual that came with your bike and think about maybe following some of the recommended regular maintenance and checks items..... such as chain tension and the need for lubrication.

Agreed, if you have a chain learn how to lube and check the tension regularly. You got very lucky you were barley moving when it happened, if it came off at speed your rear tire most likely would have locked up and you may not have been here to tell us about it!!!!!

Sooooooo lucky . . . Most of the time chains fall off people are not so fortunate. Sounds like the air box is broken which can be plastic welded back to shape. As for the chain you will need to pull the rear back to get the chain back on and get the chain slack back to where it should be. If the chain is not around the front sprocket you will need to get the front sprocket cover off as well. Check and make sure you sprockets are okay. If they look worn like a ninja star ;P you may need to change them and would explain why this happened in the first place. Once you get some pictures up more accurate information can be provided. Dont worry though luck seems to be on your side ;P

Did the chain break or just jump off the sprockets?

This happened to me once. The nut holding the front sprocket in place came loose and the front sprocket fell off. Luckily I was hardly moving at the time. Sounds like the same thing has happened to you. Just one of the many reasons why I now ride shaft driven bikes.

Any pictures? i live close to Bolton, lemme know if u want me to stop by take a look. g/f rode a 2007 Ninja 250 which is the same bike so i'm familiar with em.

Do you wear dentures because you don't want to bother brushing your teeth?
