CBR650F review on Canada Motoguide

i like 'em alot....reasonably priced, real world riding position, good build quality, decent enough power for the street...unfortunately im finding insurance to be more than 600 supersports...makes no sense

I'm going into my 2nd year on a CBR650F. I totally agree with the author and really enjoy the bike.

Was my biggest surprise of the Moto Show last weekend. The ergos are sportier than that of the other 650's, and it feels really well put together. I think it puts out a little more power too. Two and half thumbs up.

Really? I was surprised that the insurance was almost the same as the 500's when I got some quotes. About a 5% increase.

got my quote from TD.. you mind letting me know who quoted you ? i wouldnt mind giving them a call

FYI TD MM was insanely expensive for this bike the first year it came out (they wanted about $200-300/year more than a new CBR600RRA), but maybe they smartened up. Went with Dalton Timmis and never looked back.

no....they didnt smarten up, theyre still retards...they want more than double my cbr500 rate for the 650

Call Dalton Timmis then...I know comparing insurance between individuals is like apples to hand-grenades, but TD MM wanted $1900/year back in 2014 for me on a CBR650F (CBR600RRA was $1800/year for comparison), and Dalton Timmis was $1200/year same coverage. Not sure what 2016 brings, as my insurance doesn't renew until mid June.

I almost bought one of these, but went with a used yamaha fz6 instead, because that extra 50cc amounted to an extra $1500 a year for insurance and it has significantly less power than the yamaha.

It does look nicer tho

You should check with more insurance companies. There's no way that going one category up (usually something like 250 - 399cc, 400 - 599, 600- 799, 800 - 999, 1000 - 1199, >1200) would result in $1,500 more a year.
Unless of course you are 18 years old, with M1 - then everything is possible.

It probably also had something to do with the fact that the 650f wouldve been a 2015 bike and my yamaha is a 2005.

It was the same story with the ninja 650r.

And yes, I did look around, but thanks for assuming that I'm an idiot :p Pretty sure every person thats ever bought insurance ever has looked around.
