Cars keep bending my licence plate!

Hello all,

I have on street parking on Lansdowne Ave -a very busy street. I am mindful of parking too close to cars but cars try to squeeze in any space available. I've had my bike for less than two weeks and my licence plate has been bent twice already! I can park on a less busy street but fear I can't hear my alarm if it goes off. I've been parking at a 45 degree to the curb and wondering if parking parallel or perpendicular would change anything.

Is it mounted on your rear tire or something?

your rear wheel should be against the curb with the bike in gear. If you’re parking alone keep the bike slightly angled in the direction traffic is going. Common courtesy in areas where a lot of motorcycles park is to be 90 degrees to the curb so everyone can squeeze in. I don’t really understand how your parking now but if your wheels are parallel to the curb this isn’t the safest way to park. If someone bumps into your rear tire its enough to knock it off the kickstand.

Are you sure your plate is being bent by cars? If you have a fender eliminator that only bolts to the top of the plate the wind resistance/oscillation will slowly bend it outwards.

I'm parking at a 45 out of fear that a 90 would make it easy for cars to tip it over, but I guess if a car wants to knock it over, it will regardless of the angle. Yes, the same lower left corner is bent towards the bike and there are scratches on the plate. Only 2/3 of the plate is supported at the back, the bottom third hangs freely. There have been many occasions where there's probably 6"-10" between my plate and the car's front bumper. Probably doesn't help that the bike cover disguises the shape / extent of the bike.

Slightly off topic, be very careful parking it with the cover on.A stiff wind turns it into a sail.

Appropriate warning from an appropriate username! The front and rear has buckles around the wheels and I bungee the middle.

You sure it's not the cover flapping or when you pull it tight? 10,000 tiny hammer taps might slowly bend the plate.

Technically you can be ticked for a 90 Degrees parking . Why? They don’t want you to sneak in between two closely parked vehicles.

Plus some tend to stick out too far into the lane. The max is 60 degrees, I believe.

I'd suspect vandalism
been parking there only for 2 weeks

someone may have their panties in a bunch
over something that you have no knowledge of

nice bike BTW

Why do they call it Parkdale when there's no place to park? Used to live on Wright Ave a half century ago and it was bad then. With houses being turned into apartments it has gotten worse. I had my Yammy stolen on Fern back then.

For about 15 bucks you can put a little flag on it like the snowmobiles do, that would make the squat rear end more visible to the cages behind you.
