Carrol Shelby's personal Cobra up for sale

The pedigree will bring some big bucks but, honestly not my cuppa.

I’d love a cobra and who wouldn’t want one owned by Shelby himself since the day it was built.

However, I’m sure he had a few.

Personally, I’d rather one with a race history or original small block for kicking around town. Still worth way too much to enjoy out in the wild but, I’d want a light, small V8 with a 4 spd to romp around town in.

The 427 is too heavy and too much for the car itself and paired to slush box, it’s simply something to park and tell everyone you care about, it’s yours and where it came from.

Definitely not a driver’s car and oddly enough it was Shelby’s driver for a number of years.

I’m sure it will end up where it belongs.

It sounds like a dragster rather than a sports car. I envision it plowing into corners but I assume they corrected for that.

I'm not a fan of the Big Brute motorcycle either.

I dont think many people would argue that the 427 was a better driving experience than the 289. Both can easily make a lot of smoke out of your tires, one is lighter and turns better. 427 sounds great and has the mystique.

There is several pieces to this puzzle. If you want a really great driving car, buy a Camry. turns, brakes, drivability will all be worlds better than a vintage Cobra. You can buy many of the originals if you have a spare million or so. Thats not what this car is about either.

Much like buying an Indian or BSA that Steve McQueen had owned, Paul Newman's Daytona Rolex watch (it tells time) , this was one of Carol Shelbys cars, and its a raw big block Detroit motor that sputters and barks and breaths fire, handles well for the 60's and has no heater, air or radio.

This would give me morning wood every time I walked into the garage, thank goodness I could never afford it.

I think I would get a similar feeling out of a CBX if I could start it up every morning in the driveway. I wouldn't even have to ride it. Just be like an old rooster waking up the 'hood. Blip, blip, blip and back to bed.

Can confirm....my Rebel 500 started, rode, worked, no fuss. But didn't get the juices flowing like when my buddy started his bike with an exhaust that would wake up everyone within a 5 block radius as it sputtered and came to life. I get the warm and fuzzy's just thinking about that sound.
