Car ownership trend in richmond hill

i read a report a while back that the gta population has a very high concentration of leased or financed vehicles.

This...I was with my dad when we got his Benz, when he told the guy he would be putting down 60 G's the salesman's eyes literally bulged...

My pops is the old school type who carries a wad of cash and hates using credit cards, nor does he like the idea of leasing/financing. His way of thinking is just buy the best that you can actually afford and keep it for the long run.

It's also more popular to lease luxury cars as the people who purchase them (whether they can or cannot afford them) like the latest and greatest. They switch up the moment a brand new remodel comes out.

and they treat them like **** while they have them...my neighbors are the type that have new Benz's, BMW's or Lexus' every 4-5 years and at least one of their car's is usually dented from a fender bender or something stupid. They have the nastiest tires I've ever seen with rims black and grimy as hell and usually bird **** on cars that they could give a **** less about cleaning even though it eats into the clear coat...but who the **** cares when you're gonna trade it in anyways right??

I've been living in Richmond hill for 6 months now and noticed the following trends in car ownership:

Persian people always driving a mercedes
Chinese family - Lexus RX 350 SUV
White people - Audi

Seeing a lot more persian families with Porshe Cayenne SUV.

I'm actually astonished by so many of these luxury cars here. I see a lot of these cars parked in town houses. It's not just a few that I see, but almost 30-50 in my commute every day. Have luxury becomes cheap and common or too many people with too much income???

Before I used to get excited by seeing a Porshe or audi r8, but now it's like meh.

Edit: these people can't drive for ****.

HAHAHAHA.. welcome to richmond hill.. wait till the summer.. the nicer cars will come out of the garages.. Bentleys, Rolls royce, etc..

I own all of my cars. I don't own a Bentley or anything (yet.. muhahahhaaha) I think paying in cash is the best way to own anything. I think outright payment of a car from a dealer isn't that uncommon anymore.

I have always complained about drivers in RH and I think its getting worse.. the nicer the car the more respect other drivers in RH give you.. its retarded..

Luxury cars are nice yes, if you can afford them obviously. i would never though go in debt over one, even a new car for that matter. people have this perception that a new car is safer and more reliable which is false. i see more broken down new cars then older ones.
I usually buy my cars cash, and they are nothing special and if they last me a year or two then I have gotten more then my money is worth. I have a wonderful detached home that i pay mortgage on and thats my main concern.
Even if i could afford a new luxury car i would not buy one, such a pissing waste of money! I just bought a 2005 pontiac wave hb and the money i save on gas makes me smile everyday! lol

Really? More broken down new cars than older ones? I'd love to hear the reasoning on that one. I think everyone has different priorities from a disposable income perspective. This is a motorcycle forum and as a result, we see the benefit of spending money on a two-wheeled recreational vehicle. Others choose to spend their money on cars. Different strokes for different folks.

its all about image...we were having the same discussion at my work place and some one asked me why did you buy a motorcycle which is more than $20,000.then he goes on to say ..oh man you are rich ..because i was able to pay cash for the bike..mind you he makes 10k/year more than me. so i told him i've saved money every pay cheque for the last 5 yrs. i didn't go to a movie theatre for the last 3 yrs, to tim's,MCD,or went out to eat..then his reply was ..man your life is boring and the idiot has a 50-60 k debt on top his mortgage but goes to cuba, Caribbean every yr on vacation on the other hand i have no debt except the mortgage..every one has different priorities ...i drive a 2004 mazda (rust bucket) just to keep my self warm in winter and bike in the summer...i love bikes and i could have financed it but as my father once said... always try to buy things with cash then you won't have to worry about any future financial problems.

At one point this was normal (saving, delayed gratification etc.) now it makes you seem like a financial genius.

Chinese people tend to put more emphasis on success and being respected by others. Cars are huge status symbols in China because most folks are new money, so Im not terribly surprised that places like Richmond Hill and Markham have a high proportion of luxury cars on the road too. Its a cultural thing.

yes and no...it has little to do with the Chinese having access to more money.

We're just shallow like that. lol.

On the flipside there's plenty of frugal, pragmatic Chinese who drive Civics and Corollas.

Meh, it's been written about in the past... its just a possible cultural difference, that's all. It doesn't take riches to buy a 3 or 5 series BMW, but someone who puts more emphasis on image and portrayal of wealth is more likely to take the plunge and make the payments on the fancy car instead of something more reasonable.

In china now, they prefer American cars some are bigger which is used as a status symbol. And also they don't wanna drive jap because there's tension with the japs

In China, they think Buick is actually a "luxury" car. Somebody has to keep GM in business.

:laughing3:

90% of Buicks in China bought with cold, hard cash.

Looks like they got it right in the biggest and most important car market in the world. Not going to well for Honda huh? Lol

Already, a handful of foreign automakers including VW and GM are developing such a commanding market position that they will be hard to dislodge, according to Yale Zhang, managing director of Automotive Foresight, a research firm.
Five years ago, eight automakers had vehicles among China's 10 most popular, according to Zhang. Last year, the Top 10 group had shrunk to just three brands -- VW, GM and the Korean duopoly of Hyundai and Kia.

China was never known for their taste in cars. Ever see some of the garbage Chinese automakers produce?

No wonder they think that Kias, Hyundais and GMs are something special. LOL.
