Hi, i recently canceled my insurance with TD for my Bike (Last Month) but i noticed that i was still charged for this month! I'm going to call again on Monday and see what's up.

Do you think they will refund the amount they "stole" from me or will they just say, sorry, we never got the cancellation notice.

I know this should go in the insurance section but i need an answer fast and this section gets way more exposure.

Thanks

If you signed the LPV prior to the withdrawl you should be good!

You quit riding Sushii? We never went out.

Had the same thing happen to me just this week. They put the payment request out way in advance of withdrawal. Only way to be sure of stopping it is a stop payment.

That being said, you should get your money back in 4-6 weeks.

All i did was call in and the rep said that they'll ship me some package or something, so i dont think i signed anything.

Just until the end of June. Moving to Jevco when i turn 21 (End of July but with 30 day grace) :p

Hmmm, i'll give that a try.

Stop payment will only work PRIOR to the money being withdrawn. If money's already out, it won't help you....sorry about that.

I was with TD initially for two weeks then switched to Jevco cuz is was about 200% cheaper. They explained to me that on motorcycle policies with them they charge a two month (or maybe it was three month) premium penalty to prevent people from cancelling in the winter. This may have been taking out the penalty?

My thoughts

An insurance policy is a perpetually renewed contract that has to be cancelled in writing. This prevents people from being un-insured due to a slip of the memory or glitch in the mail. You have to cancel in writing. If your agent forgot it's between you and him. There can be agency billing or direct billing and that would determine to an extent who's pocket pays.

One could argue that you didn't read your policy hence your fault or it could be read that your agent accepted responsibilty to act on your behalf but didn't follow through and now it's his problem.

Another factor. My wife works for an insurance company and she is always relating stories of delayed paperwork. Sometimes it's a total joke.

Re automatic withdrawals: Some companies jump the gun.

i recently cancelled as well.
they told me that they request withdrawal quite early and can't stop it, but after they withdraw the next payment, they will refund me the payment they took out plus whatever else they owe me for cancelling

Probably not as the amount seems to be same throughout.

Lets hope that's true, i will post back tomorrow

UPDATE: Called right now and they said that the cancellation was processed and that they will refund me what they owe me within next week. Reason was just as superspud9 stated, they requested the withdrawal quite early (before cancellation) so that is why i got charged.

Only 8 more days until i can ride again! Woot Woot!

generally its nothing to panic over. alot of companies will have their billing set to withdrawl 2 weeks in advance of your payment date.

I would've still needed to call to confirm if it was canceled as i know some companies take forever or makes up excuses like you must have it in a written form. But now i know, Thanks

Don't worry, you will get your money back if your payment went through and you didn't use that month, that only works if you canceled by may 30th. From June you owe them money, because remember just because you pay them equally montly payments dosen't mean thats what you're covered for each month. From June till about Oct is where the most of your insurance is distributed, from Nov to May if you cancel you owe them nothing they owe you if anything, the other months you owe them.

The payment that went through is gone and once you cancle the insurance company will send you cencelation package to TD insurance finance that close your accounts and will send you your check with the amount they owe you or you owe them. Its hard to tell in your situation who owes who because you're on the borderline of peak and non peak bike season cancelation period.

As for worrying about stealing your money, they can't, they will reimburse you if you are owed just takes 2 to 3 weeks, both the cancelation and agent you opened the accounts for are different departments. think of it this way you got full service and happy faces and everything doen on the spot when you opened your account because they wanted your money or business, but when you cancle they just need confirmation and basically say "F.U.K" you and send all the paper work to the back room "the financial departments to sort everything out and take their time closing your account and payments" btw Canada is not that currupt...yet! lol

I'll be getting a refund of $519.

Expensive insurance if that's monthly!

Its not for 12 months, its for like 7 months or something.

Jevco gave me around $1500 full coverage $250 deductible (no collision though, but i'd rather fix the bike up my self if it was my fault), so i'm switching over to them XD
