Canadian friendly border car tire shops

Kijiji is good.

I picked up a set of used Dunlop winter tires for my Edge for $350. Just started my 4th winter with them and they're still going strong.

Yep, I couldn't be happier, they're the best rated winter tires. A michelin set was sold out in half a day at $400 a set.

The only problem was I'm a dumb arse & bought the wrong profile tire. My speedo/odo will be off by 8%. But if I use it for 2 seasons it has already paid for itself

+1 for Kijiji. Bought 18" alloy rims with 1 season old Hankook winters. Was really interested only in the rims and was going to put fresh winters on, but gave the Hankooks a try. They were amazing and going to give them another run for this winter as well.

Price was far far cheaper than if I bought rims only from the dealer.

Kijiji is frustrating. I was looking for rims and tires for my GF. Most tires are listed as "lightly used one season" for 300-400. Most are actually down to the wear bars. The ones that don't list the tire brand and model are also annoying. Wish people could leave comments for ads.

I guess YMMV

Going through this now looking for wheels and winter tires for my Audi. Either sellers have no idea about tread depth or they are flat-out lying. I picked up a tread depth guage and I'll do a quick search on the manufacturer's website for the original tread depth. Slim pickings in my area unless I want to spend a grand or more.

I have four 5x114.3 rims for 64.1 hubs or smaller. Should fit 5 bolt hondas, toyotas and subarurs. They really are mint. $120.

I am looking for a set of 114.3 x 5 for a hyundai, so I beleiev the hub is larger. Seems that the hub size is almost unique to them :( Leaves you with much less choice

4 or 5 hrs of your time, + $60+ in fuel, wait in line at border, get grilled by border guys, pay tax and duty.....to save $200?
No thx.
I have had good luck at a few local tire shops.

Yokohama Ice Guards in 16" for wifey's old minivan were under $700 tax incl. installed in Simcoe at Freeman's...then I mailed away the rebate and got $75 back

Tons on kiji.. I almost got a set of Hankook Ipikes, looked to be 90% tread. Said 3 months driven on then sold car....on rims, $650 in the GTA....but wrong size for our Volvo....exact size you are looking for though.

Ended up finding a set of IPikes on kiji a few wks ago with 2 seasons on them, but tons of tread left, on rims, right size for the Volvo, incl OEM hubcaps for $300 in Hamilton. I always used Yokohamas or Michelins in the snow before, so I was wary of the Hankook....but last week, they had no problems with the crappy weather west of us.
