Canada's Motorcyle and Pete's Superbike

I read through the post about Pete's Superbike and some of the issues with them. Has anybody ordered from Canada's Motorcycle recently? I need a Dunlop D401 150/80B16 rear tire for a 2006 HD Sportster. Pete's has a better price but the other best price I can find is with Canada's Motorcycle. Just looking for ideas or anywhere else I can order. The local guy in Barrie wants 219 for the same tire.

I've ordered from Canada's motorcycle.. had a great experience, the jacket was here in a few days. I've also heard great things about Pete's, people have received their tires within 2 days. I'd say you're safe with going with either one.

Hey man if you're talking about my thread about Pete's I would just call and verify stock availability. Every other mention of Pete's is always good so if he has the stock for sure, you will get the BEST price and lots of people report next day delivery when he has stock. I changed my mind by the end of that thread, I will buy from Pete's after triple checking stock availability. I ended up having to pay an extra $70 elsewhere - nobody will even touch Pete's prices, I asked!

And yeah, $256 at St. Onge for my rear! What a joke. I'm from Barrie too.

After reading a few threads, I ordered from Pete's, but didn't check availability as I am not in a rush. I'll try remember to report back on my experience.

I wish St. Onge could come somewhere close to touching these on-line prices and the installation & balance cost that is cited at Rosie Toes or Heritage. I'd gladly give them double the cost of my fuel to save me the trip into the city in my car for installation. Since there are so many Barrie residents reading on this thread: has anyone used MIssion Cycle in Angus for a tire install?

Great experiences with Canada's Motorcycle.
No hassle returns as well.

What did they quote you for tire install? Only $100 for me. Are you trying to get it with the wheels already off? Or have them remove the wheels?

That sounds about right... it was Spring & the tires still had some life in them... I'll give them another shout when my tires come in to see what they would charge just for the install. I'll for an estimate both ways & decide if I want to take the wheels off myself or not.

Yeah they basically said it'd be 1hr labour, $99.95.

One of the safety course teachers at Georgian has a small shop he may have better prices or just beat their quote. www.farroutpowersports.com

I ordered mine from Pete's and then just waited until I had to go to Toronto for any reason and stopped by Heritage to get them mounted.. cost me 40 bucks.

This is likely what I will end up doing too... you would think if heritage could do it for $40 then St. Onge could manage it at $50 :-s

Hmm, should I be looking elsewhere for install and safety?

I'm looking at $100 install + $65 safety. Damn Barrie!

100 dollars to mount tires is crazy... like I said, most of us go into Toronto every now and then, just take them when you go, kill 2 birds with one stone.. if you don't ever go.. well even at an extra 20 bucks for gas you're still ahead.. but it depends what your time is worth if you're making a special trip. As for the safety.. can't really ride it until it's safetyed, so unless you've got a truck and feel like loading it up.. might have to bit the bullet an pay the 65 to get it done local.. 65 for a safety doesn't actually seem that bad to me..

Well it's not just mounting they'd have to take the wheels off too. I only have a rear stand so I can't take em off myself. Unless someone in Barrie wants to lend me a front stand.

Is it pretty straight forward to remove the wheels? Seems like it could be a bit extensive for a noob with the chain and sprocket and all.

The $100 consists of 1hr labour at $99.95 seems legit including removing wheels, no?

Ohhhh I didn't realize you weren't removing the wheels yourself.. I don't think you'll find it for much less then 100 anywhere then.

That said, if you want to use my fork stand be my guest. You can also use a ratchet strap and hang the front end from a rafter in your garage.

I'm not much of a mechanic and I didn't find it hard to do (helps to have a second pair of hands).. just make sure you torque everything down properly when you put it back together.. don't want anything coming loose while you're on the road!

Thanks. I may take you up on that.

The parts coming loose was kind of what I was worried about. I do have a torque wrench, it was on sale for $30 at Princess Auto... Should I get a higher quality one?

Just did my rear.. First time... Not hard at all, though another pair of hands would have been helpful. I didn't use a torque wrench just made sure the axle nut is real tight. Also remember the order in which you removed stuff... makes it easier or take a pic of how stuff was while removing it.

As long as it works it should be fine..

Over-tight can be just as bad as under-tight.. you should REALLY get a torque wrench.. the head of a bolt shearing off a speed with happen even more quickly then a loose bolt wiggling out...

Do you have a princess auto nearby? What bike are you riding? If it's a 250r, they have the smaller one you need for $29.99 (10-80ft/lbs). Make sure you get one that goes low enough for your weakest bolt. I needed 14.5ft/lbs for my Ninja 250r so the 20-150ft/lbs was no good.

Wow - Pete's Superbikes with the Super-service! I put the order in on Friday & got a confirmation later that afternoon. The shipment notice was sent on Monday afternoon - I just checked the tracking info & FedEx says that the parcel is out for delivery in Barrie already. I did not expect that fast of a turnaround! As long as the right tires are in the parcel, I am impressed! Definitely worth saving $60 to $100 (plus fuel for pickup)

I might splurge the savings on the St. Onge installation & keep my hands clean - we'll see... ;-)

Edit: Delivered amost exactly two buniness days from the online order.
