Can you own a motorcycle without a license?

Nevermind, problem solved. Look down for an OSAP quote regarding how a vehicle effects your OSAP.

Long story short, most used bikes won't effect your OSAP.

So I am, against my better judgement and the advice of many close friends, going to be buying a used GS500F. However, I am a student and do receive assistance from OSAP. Due to this I would like NOT to put my motorcycle down as an asset and would like to give ownership to my father. However, my father only has a G license. Is a M type license required in order to own a motorcycle?

Thanks ahead of time!

Also, out of curiosity, how much tax do I have to pay when plating the bike if the dude who sells it to me says it's a "gift"?

help me commit OSAP fruad and insurance fraud

You got a stick up your *** mate? Mind if I take it out for you? I wasn't aware this was fraud of any sort, and how the hell did this link to insurance? I still live under my parents roof and I drive their cars, should I go list those as my ****ing assets? Stick out of ***, please and thank you.

You can own whatever you want if it's not going on the road, and you'll have to pay the taxes on book value for the bike, they made it this way to stop such shananagans.....ya I said it!

Thank you. How would insurance work though?

I called up MTO and they told me that it would be 13% between the UVIP value or the sale value, which ever was higher, just how much is the UVIP value on a 2006 GS500F?

Stick still in ***? I can do quite a few pull ups, chin ups, and heavy lat pull downs, I'm sure I can help take it out of your *** if you really need help with it.

How do you know my father isn't buying it for me as a gift where he places ownership under his name and let me ride it? You don't. Don't be a self righteous fool, please and thank you.

Disregarding the whole "fraud" argument, I will answer your question.

YES, you can own a vehicle without having a valid license, you just can't put it on the road or ride/drive it for that matter.
I believe there's tax exemption if the transfer is done between immediate family but you would have to call the MTO and confirm this.
If that doesn't work, you can also sell the bike to your dad for a 1000$ and you will only pay HST on that 1000.

Good Luck!

Because you said you are buying it in your original post. Epic.

dawg, lolololololololololololololololololololololololol

Btw, you're the reason why I can't qualify for osap while working and I'm judging you.

edit: I originally answered your questions, but I removed it 'cause you started talking about lat pulldowns

Thank you, I don't have the bike yet but was planning to pay and put it under my father's name. Does this have any impact on insurance? I have little to no idea how insurance works as I've been pretty "babied" since I've been a kid. Doesn't help that I've never had an accident in my life (G Licensed, more than 200k miles driven in total, thanks to schooling at Western Ontario and living in the GTA).

From your own words:
So I am ... going to be buying a used GS500F. However, I am a student and do receive assistance from OSAP. Due to this I would like NOT to put my motorcycle down as an asset and would like to give ownership to my father.
That hardly suggests that your father is buying the thing for you. Even if he did, you would be legally obligated to report the asset when applying for OSAP.

The others called it right - OSAP fraud to start with, and insurance fraud to follow when you extend your line of thinking to make your father the principle operator of YOUR bike.

Your father cannot insure it under his name as the primary driver, but you are actually the primary driver(INSURANCE FRAUD)

How much are you making while working and trying to get OSAP? I know people who make 13k, pay 10k rent a year, and still get 10k OSAP. So either you aren't piss poor, or you're just trying to start beef for the hell of it.

In order to insure a motorcycle you have to have at least an M1... so get your dad to hit the books and get his M1, if he does take the course he might keep the bike and you'll be SOL ;)

Okay now I'm honestly and utterly confused.

My parents have always owned 3 vehicles. They told me the reason why they cannot insure a 3rd vehicle with either of them as the primary driver is because insurance would call ******** and place either of their children (me, and others) who hold licenses as the primary driver. These vehicles are owned by THEM.

You're telling me that motorcycles operate different for insurance? Or that my parents just have crap English? (Which they do!) And to clarify again, I do not have the motorcycle yet, I am purchasing it soon. There is no "gifting" involved, it would simply be I give cash, father takes ownership, I become primary driver....or at least that's what I thought it would be until I got flamed.

EDIT: I do not want my father as the primary driver, I am the primary driver. Last I recall insurance fraud is purposely forcing a payment out of a controlled "accident" or something similar. I still really don't understand how any of this was insurance fraud, I don't want my father to have any insurance on the motorcycle period if it is possible. Worse comes to worse I'll put the ownership down on my name, and I apologize for the "troll-like-behavior" but I seriously wasn't expecting trolls (kellen) to exist on local forums; I thought they were exclusive to video game boards.
