Can my visiting British friend rent a sport touring motorcycle near the GTA?

Hi All,

I have a Kawasaki Versys 1000 (which I love!) and would love to go on a one week ride with a friend who would visit from Britain. Does anyone know how he could rent a sport touring motorcycle near the GTA so that he could join me?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

I think GTA Exotics rents a few different styles of motorcycles still in the area, but they usually don't start rentals until June.

This is a UK based place. You can rent out of Montreal, which is doable since your friend is here for a week.

Another company that rents out of Montreal:

Some H-D dealers rent as well. May be not what you're looking for but options are limited. This is an overview from their website:

A sample of H-D dealers that rent bikes:

London

Kingston

holy crap. thats expensive to rent. and look at the Km 's allowed....lol

its probably better to buy a bike, and sell it after.

Fwi most travel insurance is void if on a motorcycle. My cousin from england couldnt even ride my bike.

Be wary of affiliate sites that advertise on behalf of the real rental agency. Too often you're paying commission costs to the affiliate for restricted mileage and conditions.

It sounds like that site above is fronting this company in St Therese (suburb of Montreal):

I'd suggest contacting the company directly and not the affiliate.

I'd do it from upper New York State instead - no web site but says they rent mcycles

Vintage Cycles

7779 Rochester Rd,
Gasport, NY 14067
(716) 772-2453

and

Lock City Cycles

5700 Otto Park Pl,
Lockport, NY 14094
(716) 439-5878

both close to border

This is probably not a bad idea, buy something cheap dump it after, would be less out of pocket (excluding posibly the insuirance?)

Interesting, any idea if this is the same if someone here went to Las vegas and rented? I know it is likely a case by case, read or contact your insurer.... but just taking a stab

I've rented in Vegas. My travel insurance has no exclusions for motorcycle, pretty sure they can't do that, or no one would go on ski vacations (which is far more likely to land you in a hospital).

Ontario is not possible due to our insurance rates.

Met a guy from UK in Arizona a few years ago. He was touring on a rented Triumph MC so it is doable in the U.S.

Depends in the travel insurance coverage. Some don't even know what exclusions to look out for or ask about.

As for renting, HD is the only reliable rental I'm aware of but it is expensive for sure.

Buying a bike then selling is only possible if OP wants to deal with all that plus safety and insuring.
A lot of hassle for one week. Not sure if insurance company would recognize his friend's UK bike license either if something were to happen.

Renting a motorcycle in Canada is neither cheap or easy. Heading down to the States for a cruise may be a more reasonable option. Google is your friend.

the OP should buy the bike FOR the friend and put it on his own policy. friend covers the difference.

OP sells bike after, any difference in price covered by friend.

Yes but friend crashes the bike - OP's insurance is f'd.

Plus like I said - quite a hassle to find a good bike, only to sell a week later. I'm assuming it would have to be somewhat reliable so would need good tires, chain, etc. So between the fix up cost, one month insurance fee (in the expensive time of the year) and freezing his money until he sells the vehicle (for who knows how much); renting may still be an easier if not also a cheaper option for the British dude.
