Can i put a newer model of dashboard on my 92 gsx-r

How new are you talking about ... ? ? ?

That bike has a mechanical speedo driven by cable from the front wheel, and a tach driven by an ignition-coil signal. All the air-and-oil-cooled GSXR's were like that. I have no idea how the shape of the instrument cluster fits with the surrounding fairings and the underlying bracket that it is attached to. There's a fair chance that all of the air-and-oil-cooled GSXR instruments are more or less workable. But they all looked about the same, too.

If you want to go all the way to a modern digital speedo ... that's a bigger challenge; your old bike does not have the electronic signals needed to make that work.

Right its a cable speedo from the front wheel so i thought forsure i couldnt go digital but maybe as high as 97-2000 not sure when the gixxer yrs went all digital but if i can put a 97 -2000 dash i would be happy althoi do no that different aspects of how it may fit or work can be a problem

You might be able to fit a koso dash, but they get upwards of $300-400.

Does anyone no if i can put a 96-97 dash/speedo on my 92 GSX-R.....Any info on a certain model of Dash/Speedo whether i can put it on my gixxer would be much appreciated Thanks!!

Yes, the drive gear for the 92 and 97' GSXR 1100 are the same part. You would have to figure out how to mount it though because the cage is different and the wiring is a bit different. Also, you will have a temp guage that is useless as its for a watercooled model.

In my opinion , for simplicity and ease of wiring , I would go with a KOSO guage. They look great and a very nice upgrade with lots of options.

'92 GSXR 750 was the first year of the liquid cooled engine, the 1100 went liquid in '93.

Yes correct but the speedo drive portion is the same for 89-98. It would work but have to change the cage.

if the koso guage fits and works with a cable speedo i will probably go with one of them cuz i went on that link that was posted and a few look great so im gonna have to look more into that

They don't have a cable speedo. It has its own wheel sensor wired to the unit that you have to set up near the front rotor. Sends a digital pulse up to the unit. Its very accurate and easy to set up. This is the setup on my buddies 94 which will be essentially the same setup on your bike.

ya mine is a 750 and im told its oil cooled

Wait so you don't even know if your bike is liquid or oil cooled and you want to fabricate a new mount and re-wire a dash? You sure this is a good idea?

i dont want to fabricate a new mount if i dont have to id jus like it to fit nicely as is you no thats why im leaning towards the koso dash.....i never new the type of coolent made a difference towards me putting in a new guage??

ya thats looks fairly easy and great!!! so if this coolent situation gets figured and i can put one in im gonna go with one of those guages.

No, but it has everything to do with your general mechanical knowledge. If you don't even know if your bike has a radiator (witch is pretty important considering you need to make sure your coolant level is correct and the correct mixture so it doesn't freeze) you should probably just keep the dash the bike came with.

no it has a radiator and when the heat guage goes up when im stuck in traffic or something the fan comes on to cool it down some...i just dont no if its oil cooled or liquid cooled cuz people tell me these bikes are oil cooled and i just thought it was air cooled cuz how my rad works

Oil cooled bikes don't have a rad, though some have an oil cooler. They are cooled by the oil circulating in the engine as well as air blowing over the cylinder fins.

Liquid cooled bikes have a rad, and are cooled by the rad fluid running around the cylinders and head then cooling off as it flows through the rad.

I cant help but lol
