Can I make a claim for single motorcycle / vehicle accident with liability insurance?

when it comes to dangerous road conditions, the town is not responsible if they make a reasonable attempt to correct the danger.

when potholes cause damage, you have to show that the city was notified of the hazards, and was negligent in repairing it.

OP due try and contact and sue the city. They put up a sign so they were in fact aware of hazardous conditions. They were also negligent because they should know its summer time now and there will be people on two wheels on the road. Judging from the picture those are very dangerous road conditions for a rider. The electronic signs on the highway frequently read "Give space to motorcycles" when those start going up, no city can claim to not be aware that motorcycles are now out on a regular basis.

don't even think about it, grab your bike and leave asap, eat it up and don't let insurance know about it
why you let them raise up AND you gotta fix it yourself

If you have comprehensive coverage it might cover this... I didn't use to have collision coverage but comprehensive covered my accident. I now have collision coverage as well lol.

If you are doing 40, theres no way you would not be able to identify the danger and avoid crashing unless you are dangerously unqualified to ride a motorcycle. Gravel is slippery but its not that slippery. The sign is there because the city is aware that the road is less than ideal, it is your responsibility to adjust your driving appropriately to road condition.

Please do not sue the city and drive my taxes up.

i just got my insurance policy in the mail holy crap, liability only is no joke I see "NOT COVERED" on every spot except for "at fault damages to other driver"

If the OP feels strongly enough, they can sue in civil court against the township responsible for the road. But, hope you have the time, patience and all your ducks in a row.

Glad you ok.

PS. I'm afraid your insurance renewal may show an increase now. Oh boy!!!!

You can't make a claim and even if you could (say if you had collision) your rates would skyrocket. Never make an at fault claim unless you really like bending over for insurance.

If you can somehow prove the road was unsafe you might be able to get the city/township/whatever to cover it. I know if you hit a pothole they'll usually cover the cost of a tire and maybe a rim. If you tried to claim extensive suspension damage they'd probably put up a good fight.

I got a free tire once after blowing a sidewall from hitting a pot hole while exiting a parking lot. Went into the business to complain and they said it was the city's property and that they had been complaining to the city for months. I think part of the rules are that the city has to have been made aware of it previously. Also, I had to sign something saying I wouldn't discuss it so I'm violating my contract right now, lol.

If you end up in a collision with someone that is deemed not your fault you're still covered.

Comprehensive is a nice one to have, too, so if someone keys your vehicle or smashes into it while you're not driving, you're also covered.

Do you really think the city should put up signs for every road hazard on the road?
Pothole ahead...... Might be a bit of gravel on the road.....
Thats a good way to spend 10's of millions of tax money every year to have city workers driving around putting in and removing signs as road conditions change.
Should we get signs to put up for black ice as well since we cant see it?

In all honesty, you must have been going above the speed limit if you didn't notice the big sign and gravel across the whole road, in which case any lawsuit is thrown out the window.

+1
