Shame that it’s an e play. Can Am made hard Mx and enduro bikes way back in the day. Just total killers. And I have to say I kinda liked the “distinctive” look of their old bikes - always stood apart from the Japanese, Maicos, and Bultacos. Only things cooler were the Huskies with metal tanks, IMHO.

Started off like this - "Cheap suspension, cheap brakes - good, they didn't use unnecessarily flashy parts to keep costs down and it's EIGHTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS??"
Also that dashboard is literally embarrassing. I would be embarrassed by it if I was riding this around

Yes overstated features but this is a big aggressive company. You can diss Tesla for a number of reasons but they sell a ton of expensive vehicles.
Tesla remains a significant player in the global EV market, capturing 11% of total sales with 625.596 units sold between January and May 2024. Despite facing headwinds earlier in the year, which led to an 8% year-over-year decline in sales as of May, the company’s performance in May provided some optimism. Tesla reported 140.000 registrations for the month
Ola Electric pulled it off, too, getting what it called the S1 scooter on the road by December 2021. Since then, Ola Electric has taken off like wildfire and now controls more than 30 percent of India’s electric scooter market. Today, Ola sells three different high-tech and surprisingly affordable electric scooters. For example, for the equivalent of $1,597, you could buy the Ola S1 Pro, an electric scooter that goes 75 mph and 121 miles on a charge under India’s extremely generous IDC testing scheme. But still, that’s a deal even with half of the range.
The scooter market in India is huge and growing like crazy
Electric two-wheeler sales jumped by a whopping 33.3 per cent in 2023-24 YoY, data showed. As per the data on Vahan portal, 910,930 units of electric two wheelers (e2w) were sold in 2023-24, against 682,937 units in 2022-23. Ola Electric accounted for nearly every third e2w sold in India last fiscal.

Ola is not an early startup

I read the article. And while impressive...that's a LOT of promises. The same article you point to also indicates the following:
- Speed limits in India are MUCH lower (many 50km/h) with rural areas seeing 100km/h
- If you drive at US speeds the range would be potentially cut in half compared to the Indian test cycle
- 'of course, I'll remind you that's under the very generous Indian test cycle'
So while it is impressive...it is a far cry from being usable.
I'll ask @anterabae for comment as her Zero has decent range...and I'm sure she can let us know her avg riding distance city/highway before starting to fret about some range anxiety.

I rode with buddies who had all of the above. Can Ams were interesting, but lacked the support network. I fear that trend will continue. My Evinrude boat engine was also recently discontinued by BRP after a relatively short run. The beautiful chrome on red Huskies were reminiscent of my Dad's Ariel. Cooler still though was the All Chrome tank on my Hodaka Wombat! The good old days!
I've been watching this company for a couple of months, they are for real. OLA makes hay with small urban e-scooters, not the cheep Chinesium rebrands, they make the battery, motor and bike - a real fully integrated product. In Indi, they have gone from 0 to 50% marketshare in 24mos. Within a year they could sell more scooters than Vespa does worldwide.
The specs are probably overblown but I'd expect the rugged conditions in India will force some ruggedness into the unit -- or it wouldn't be selling.
They also have some interesting tech that uses phone apps, touch screen TFT or Bluetooth voice AI (like Siri, Alexa, Hey Google). Antitheft (geo fence, locators, disablers), BMS stats, navigation integrated with comms and onscreen locations of riding buddies, crash SOS.
The base model motorcycle set for delivery in in a few months is $1300 in India, goes 120KMH and 130km range. I'd buy one at 3x the price.
OLA sells a 4KW e2W scooter with a top speed of 120kmh and range over 120km @ 80kmh for $2200CAD in India. Compare that to the Vespa Electricca with a top speed of 70kmh and a range of 100km @ 40KMH for $10,000.
