Cager Appreciation Thread

I know we give them all the heat, most of the time deserved. Let's show some love to the ones who aren't idiots.

Lets start a thread posting stuff cagers do for us motorcyclists that we appreciate!

I'll start,

Flashing high beams to let you know theres a cop coming up, be careful.

On Dhruv's ride yesterday, a white pick-up pulled over to the side to let our group pass. It was twisty and a big group, so it would have taken a few openings to get everyone by. Don't see that too often! Must have been a rider, Lol!

what does this mean?

i appreciate those cagers who leave a gap for me to squeeze in the line when the traffic is really busy, and i appreciate those who slow down for the whole group when the lead (or the first couple riders) has just changed the lane and rest of us are trying to catch up.

i have had a bad experience when there were 3 of us, and the lead changed the lane in front of a SUV driven by a mid-aged woman. when the rest of us were trying to pass her and change the lane, she deliberately accelerated and didn't want us to catch up. It made me really really mad.

That's because we live in Ontario. Whenever I'm riding in the US, happens all the time.

No just somebody who's not from the GTA.

I do this and see others some times. Essentially giving bikers space, not stopping right behind one or following too closely behind. All for the safety of the rider in case of getting rear ended while stopped or the rider emergency braking giving me enough time to avoid collision and or stop.

yea, and on the same ride we encountered a blue civic who thought it would be cool to completely blow a tight right hand corner and almost ditch it on the wrong side of the road. thank god there weren't any cars/bikes coming the other way or he would have creamed them.

Drivers here don't often pull over for bikes, but when they do i tend to give them a wave. Much more common in the states.

on my way to work, most people actually got out of my way when i came up behind them in the left lane. didnt even have to get too close, hi-beam OR finger salute them this morning on the 401.

im always confused if i should thank wave them for that or not.. i am thankfull that they moved over for me but then i think, this is just one of those not written rules of the road. move over to the right if u see a faster vehicle approaching behind you.

part blame goes to the leader for not scanning the traffic more thoroughly for ALL 3 of you instead of just him/her self.

I know what you mean. in this particular case i think it was a bit different though because there was a red light in front and all the vehicles started to slow down. he accelerated to pass the woman, and i'm sure there was enough room for us if she drove like a normal person. plus the lead did not cut her off or anything, and it was just a normal pass. but she accelerated immediately to block us. that's just purely dumb and stupid. when i finally passed her and was waiting for the red light, i looked back at her angrily and she was shaking her head as if she was disapproving what we did.

yes, noticed it too. some cages move out of my/our way, and sometimes it happens in other lanes too.

you'd be lucky half the time if drivers in Ontario looked in their mirrors once in while.. most of them dont.. let alone look in mirror and move aside for you. Most people here in Ontario are bad drivers with "me first" attitudes. The ones that have some sort of etiquette are the ones that stick out when I drive or ride here.

Think about How many big F250/F350 trucks have pulled over for you? probably none, most of the time they're probably on your arse tailgating.
