Cafe racer/Standard bike VS Ninja/CBR 250

Holy that 750 sure is looking very nice.
i was quoted cheaper for the 550 vs the 250s and 300s.. Even the gs500. Just putting it out there.

Not all cafes need love. Almost all finished cafes are road ready with rebuilt carbs and top end gasket. Just buy one and make sure it runs with good compression. If you arent a wrencher buy a stock running bike and work on it (cafe) yourself over the years.

You're luckier than me. I am currently building a cafe (CX500). Quoted insurance is just under what I paid on my 600 SS.

Hey everyone,

Everyone tells me a ninja or CBR 250 is a good starter bike, but I really like the idea of riding a standard bike or a cafe racer, I find them really nice. I was looking at the Suzuki S40 and the Honda CMX 250. Any suggestions of similar bikes that aren't too powerful (so insurance won't kill me - I'm under 25!) but similar?

Thanks,
WC

Since you mentioned you're interested in the Rebel, I'm selling my 03 VLX600 if you are interested. It's like the not so big brother to the Rebel. Great starter bike as well. Shoot me a pm for details if you're interested...

This is going to be a nice looking cafe. I initially wanted the cx500 but wet for the kick start

Thanks for all the comments! It seems as though the general consensus is to go for a 250 ninja/cbr, which is probably what I will do.The suzuki tu250 with ryca kits is really sexy though.
Thanks for all the input.

That's a S40 Savage with the Ryca kit just to clarify. There are no kits for the TU at the present time. If you think you need a kit, better to buy a more expensive bike.

Suzuki GW250 Liquid cooled EFI Twin. Listed on the Canada website for $3999 about $1200 cheaper than a TU250

Completely forgot about this bike! Nice to have more options for the smaller displacement bikes. If this was around when I bought my CBR250 I probably would've taken it simple for less fairing, and instead of a single cylinder.

I'm genuinely surprised at how cheap that is. I bought my TU used for $3700 (virtually new, only had 669 KM on the odo).

The GW is uglier and more complex however, liquid cooling and twin cylinders is harder for a newbie to do their own work. On the TU single you just have the intake and exhaust valve and no liquid.

Still, for the price that is pretty amazing for new. The base non-ABS Ninja 300 is $5400 and I would say between the two, you are better off taking the $1400 and spending it on an excellent set of riding gear.
