Buying U.S. Bikes from Dealers

Hello all, there are a lot of U.S. bikes being sold here in the GTA which were purchased from auctions in the U.S. and imported here. My question is for those whom have purchased such a bike from a dealer here, did you have any issues trying to sell the bike after a few years? Any pros and cons of buying U.S. bikes.

my latest bike was initially from the US. I don't see how it would be detrimental to a sale

My bike is a USA model Goldwing SE. The downside is the speed / odometer is predominantly MPH. The upside is it has more features than a Canadian model. I also saved about 1/3. Prices here are a joke.

Most Sportbikes bikes have digital speedos and its just a matter of hitting a button to go from KMH to MPH and back.

There will be no record of how many owners it had previously on uvip. Also more difficult to check things like odometer fraud etc etc. Hence people wont be as interested as in a canadian bike with full records

Any pros and cons of buying U.S. bikes.

The con is if you buy from a dealer here you will still pay too much. The pro is if you import it from the US yourself you will be able to ride it for a few years and still make money on the resale. My buddy bought his FZ in the states a few years ago and could sell it now for more than he paid for it.

Also sometimes there's some colors schemes that didn't came out here, so when you need to replace any of the fairings you have to get them from there. Happened to me.

I see what you're saying; but it's the constant re-iteration of statements like this that state "buy a bike at a good price, and you won't lose any money on it when you re-sell", which is what KEEPS the prices in Ontario so brutally high.

Just sayin'.

Not really. What keeps prices up here so high are the people who continue to pay the ridiculous asking prices, not to mention the higher prices charged by Canadian dealers for the same bikes that cost way less just across the border.

BTW, my friend bought his 2006 FZ600 in the states about four years ago for less than $4,000.00 (including his import fees). He actually bought the bike online from a dealer through eBay. He rented a trailer and drove down to Massachusetts to pick it up. I have seen the same year and model advertised for much more than he paid, so even if he let it go for a really great deal, he would still stand to make money after riding it for a few years.

Just bought a new 2012 Ninja 250 for $5650 on the road while ppl are asking 4800-5200 for used 2011's plus the hst. And yes its true ppl are getting close to the ridiculous asking prices.
