Buying a house that has been an ex grow up?

They purposely remove the joists in the basement supporting the first floor area near the front door.

They will normally use the side door/garage to enter. If police or intruder enters the house, they end up in the basement with broken legs.

Yea, that's something you miss for 6 years.

You are missing one thing that the OP posted... "another lady lived here for 6 years". If people have been living there for 6 years it cannot be that bad.
Exactly when (period of time) was the house used for that purpose?
Exactly how long has someone been living there since the cops busted the operation?

Get confirmation of the above, and you can do a more informed decision.

Unless the one who lived there for 6 years just found out that there's black mould all over the house. With the amount of moisture given off by a grow op, you would have to completely gut all of the drywall in order to get out all of the mould.

to pass the air quality testing, most homes would have to be gutted to get rid of mold.

If you did an air quality test on a new home 1 year after it was completed and lived it, it will fail mold testing.

Given some of the crap that I've seen, I have absolutely no doubt that you're right. Ang and I went looking at some new homes in her area for the hell of it, a couple of years back, and they couldn't even get the finish right so I'd be scared to see what was behind THAT.

I was just looking at a grow op house in Brantford... Great deal. Too bad banks have so much red tape it's not worth it. I went to the "big" banks and none of them would mortgage me on it. That's with over 20% down and I more than qualify financially to buy it. Move along, not worth the hassle and potential future problems. Just my 2 cents.

I never borrow from banks. Maybe try a good broker.

Another thing ... make sure you can get insurance on the former grow-op house! No insurance ... no mortgage. Even if you are paying cash for the house (who does that?), when it comes time to sell that house, you'd have a much smaller market.
