Buying a bike situation... :(

I'm with KLR Guy here. Some of you are just way too paranoid.

I've owned 10 bikes over 30+ years of riding and never had theft coverage on any of them. Actually my standard line when getting insurance is "I just want the bare minimum required by law"

Only one key is really sketchy especially if he is going to deliver it to your house, I would either ride it home or have him drop it off at a friend's house. I would be surprised if he lost the spare key and manual, but didn't lose any other paperwork (sounds fishy)...

Also don't trust the UVIP for accurate lien info, the day that you buy the bike you should check that website I posted above for a lien search against the VIN.



If you searched the VIN and it didn't show up as stolen it probably wasn't, so I wouldn't be too concerned with that.

Just make sure the guy who is selling the bike actually is on the ownership papers and the VIN matches up.

He said he only had one key, and he has this thing called a key code that hes going to give me incase I lose the key I can get a new one with it that works with the ignition.

He also said that the service manual never came with the bike, it was bought from kuhana powersports and they said they could print him one or he could just use the online one.

VIN matched up, address matched, name matched I checked his drivers license.

As for the lien, we went tot he lien holder today (national bank) and they told me that it was paid off, im getting the Letter of Release of Interest on monday with the bike and the safety with UVIP, title etc.

Sounds clean :D
 
Seems like this transaction is not going too smoothly. What's your gut say? When shopping for a bike/car, know that this isn't the last great deal you will see. Be patient. OP, it doesn't seem like you are too comfortable and are looking for forum members to validate that this deal is legit. It sounds like you want all ducks in a row. So in that case, better to pass and move on to the next deal.

That's bull****, I bought my first bike (ninja 250) from Kahuna and it came with an owners manual and a spare key so I highly doubt the more expensive ninja 650 would not come with either. Although if all the paper info matches up and the lien is paid off then the deal sounds legit.

Still for your own safety (from getting scammed) check that website for lien information the day that you buy the bike, and I would still consider having it delivered to a friend's place (or ride it home) in case the owner plans on using the spare key to steal it from your garage later.

If I were you I'd go ahead and buy it.
 
Dude...I've been following you're threads since you've started but you are seriously getting way too ****ing paranoid. The bike sounds legit and if your bike gets stolen you know who did it.

He bought it 2nd hand, 1 owner before him, it sounds okay to me too many things add up correctly for this to be some scam, im just going to buy it

Haha thanks for following and yea I admit I am overly paranoid but who wouldn't be at 17 buying their first vehicle :P

Slept on it for a few days, everything is fine for me now not too paranoid anymore just going to buy the bike and enjoy it :)

If he's the second owner, then how would he know what did and didnt come with the bike when it was brand new?

Mine came with 2 keys, manual, and tool kit. Like pretty much any bike.

I still have all of those things plus a third spare key I had made.
 
I've never gotten a 2nd key when buying my bikes because the previous owners always lose them :@
 
Have never heard of a bike coming with only ONE key.
A manual is required for any motorized vehicle by law.

He has a toolkit too :P, just missing the service maunal and spare key :(, he has the key maker thing, he said the dealership gave it to him and its able to make spare keys

He never said he knew what it came with brand new, it was bought, sold to a dealer (used) then the SELLER (the one selling me the bike) bought it from kuhana powersports as a USED vehicle. Kuhana only gave him ONE key and they said they could print him a manual if he wanted. He also said they gave him some sort of special key to make new keys for that one particular ignition.

UPDATE!!!!!!!
Seller just told me when I asked about this spare key maker he had

(some keyfob that came with the bike to make spare keys)

He told me he already ORDERED a spare key for me so I'd have 2 keys in my pocket when I bought it.

If he wanted to steal the bike he could have just made a 3rd so I don't see why he would have tried keeping 1 key and giving me only 1 to steal a bike when he could have just gave me 2 and made a 3rd so sounds safe on my part :D

OP, this seller seems very motivated to sell. Though I like to maek sure my customers are always happy with their purchase adn do what I can, this seems almost like he's trying TOO hard?

Hahaha but seriously I thought he would have gotten fed up by now, either he's a super nice guy or really needs the money.

haha, well i didn't really bug him that much mostly just asking questions on the forum.

called him thursday, went to check it out on friday, asked for UVIP and it had a lien on it, cleared it up on saturday and hes delivering it today

don't think it was that much of a hassle
