Not really a fair comparisonBritten or Allen Millyard come to mind. Not much budget, no team to assist them
Millyard makes some cool, quirky stuff, but in the end he is just re-working existing technology.
Britten was the last guy that took on the world racing establishment, by himeself, designed and engineered by himself, self financed, working out of a shed... and WON!
There used to be a time when a "guy" could take on the world... and WIN.
Off the top of my head: Britten, Kim Newcombe, Pattoni... Mr. Brough JR. (If you didn't know; Mr Brough Senior made motorcycles. They were nice. Mr. Brough JR thought he could do better (what son doesn't think he can out do his dad?) and made the Brough SUPERIOR... and it was superior! Every SS100 was road tested at 100mph when other makers were struggling to reach 70mph.
... no two Broughs are the same. EVERY one was different in some way.
... there are quite a few Broughs in Ontario. When the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) started, road patrol officers were responsible to buy and service their own motorcycles (OPP used motorcycles exclusively for road patrol till 1947) and the Brough SS100 and SS80's were a favourite. A Brough could run down anything on the road at the time.
... this "name legacy" stuff is BS.
The Norton Motorcycle Co. used to be a Canadian Tshirt company
