You do realize he raced in MotoGP for 7 years right? 5 of those years were for Rizla Suzuki...

Thanks for that piece of history. Curiosity got the best of me and I read up on most of it and eventually even watched the movie Michael Collins.
What I didn't know was the last bit about Rea's sponsorship money coming from England and "Irish" Protestants calling themselves "Ulster", so now I know where Ulsterman comes from. Yes the most mind boggling part was seeing Michael Laverty fly the Union Jack. Hence I was very confused about the whole racer identity for Irish. I guess if you were born in the Republic of Ireland and not Northern Ireland your flag you choose would never be in question.

It still seems the Laverty brothers are much more openly Irish than JR though! But like you said I guess JR gotta keep his sponsors happy.
