Bridgestone batt lax , is it me or the tire ?

It's comparing apples to oranges, op was concerned about street use not track

Actually it is not ... because if the tire was up to a track demand, don't you think it would be more than enough to goof around Ontario streets??

Yes, there are features you want on a street tire, track doesn't require (wet performance and warm-up time), but the OP was talkign about sliding all over the place at street speeds ....

what is the rear brake for then? Should I just get rid of it altogether?

Unless you are on a crusier (which whole different ball game), for very slow speed maneuvering ... think parking lots etc. or wet roads, or lose gravel roads etc. ..... but don't just stomp it. A lot of people have the rear brakes set up so sensitive and then they do lock up easily too.

Don't you guys have warmers? Plus running at speeds + high lean angles mean that you could maintain high temps on the tire.
Different scenario

LOL .... that's truly hilarious ... So you know better than Dunlop R&D spending millions on a new technology???
No but Pirelli & Metzler do, thanks for coming out

I exclusively use the rear brake coupled with engine braking (pretty much only rear braking lol) when approaching red lights from very far away as an attempt to not stop (roll past when it turns green).

In normal traffic, I'll use both brakes together. For emergency stops, I've conditioned myself to only use the front brakes because instincts makes you do stupid things when you panic (stomping the rear). For trail braking, I only use the front; don't want to risk the rear locking.

Also, as stated before, parking lot 1st gear speeds is much smoother while riding the rear brake.

What's the worst that's going to happen if you stomp on the rear brake? You'll lock the rear wheel, that's it, no drama.

Coupled with trying to dodge something, that's a low side. In the event that you're going straight, that's a rolling burnout lol

Then you would perform an emergency swerve.

There is a reason why riding schools teach both brakes for emergency braking for new riders.

If you perform emergency braking with the front brake only while trying to swerve you'll go down even faster. The issue is that hard braking and turning don't mix. It's amazing how many people swear off using the rear brake instead of having it set up properly and learning to use it properly.

Op is on a gsxr. If you are braking hard the back tire is not on the ground enough for any rear brake. Or not on the ground at all.

There's a few racers here who swear by rear brakes alone

Hard braking and turning work fine as long as you don't stab/grab a handful of brakes and slowly apply it with an inverse amount of throttle. But I haven't tried any of these techniques on the track yet so I might just be talking out of my ***; it has worked fine when I take a ramp hot and a car tries to merge into me. In that situation I'm leaned over already, I'm not going to add more load onto the rear wheel by putting the rear brake on.

I have not been in many situations where I need to emergency brake in a straight line so I'm not sure what my instincts would tell me to do. But yes, you are partially right, I know people that have gone down chomping the front brakes while dodging before.
