Just checked the wear before going for a ride, and the pads are down to the metal. Where would one find replacement pads at this time in toronto?' maybe someone got spares that I could buy from? Still hoping to be able to go for a ride tonight / tomorrow. I'm in downtown, but can rent a cage to come pick them up.
thank you!

Some shops should be open tomorrow. Call around and see who has what in stock.

Worst case, just stay off the rear brake. You'll be ok till next week.

Hi Jayv
ive sent you my cell #. Please let me know if I could drop by to pick them up tonight! Thank you!

How do you know for sure the pads are broken?

And if they're not, I'll happily break them for you.

Just to clarify, will you be braking his breaks? Or breaking his brakes? Or braking the brakes that didn't break?

heres my two scents.

I cents there might be a problem with her brakes. but as someone said earlier, you can still ride with just your front brakes.

no need to waste dollars and sense renting a car for nothing

--- cent from my laptop---

You people are horrible. I broke my brake pads, thank you very much.
Freaking pistons in the calliper wouldn't move back into place, can't remove the calliper also cuz of f up bolt... Cant ride it to mechanic in this condition either. What a mess, need some nice tools and a helping hand. Any volunteers?? :)

A cheap C- clamp will push the pistons back into their bores.

I remember reading somewhere about using a flat head screwdriver to pry back the pistons in the caliper. Sounds aggressive, though. I'll be back downtown on Monday, and I think I have a spare set of half worn break pads somewhere in my apartment. If you still need a hand by then, just let me know

Gnat and Tricky,
Thanks for your replies. I have bought the new pads already, it's just a matter of installing them now. I've tried the screw driver method, doesn't work, the rotor is obstructing the access to the pistons. I've also tried to take down the back wheel, I can't get the freaking rear nut unscrewed. Im going to crappy tire to get the c claimp and some brake fluid, and better tools.
If someone could spare an hour to help me out- this would be greatly appreciated. I live right by st.lawrence market.

Unbolt the caliper....then with it in your hand, lay an old pad across the piston. Open C clamp up enough to span over the caliper body, resing one side of the clamp on the caliper's backside, and then tighten the clamp onto the pad....the pressure on the pad will pust piston back into the bore.

Clean the pistons with an old tooth brush and soap and water, take off your reservoir cap, wrap the base in a towel to protect your paint in case it over flows before pushing in the pistons. Doing both will make pushing the pistons in easier.

I would like to thank Jesse and his companion for taking their time today and helping me out with the bike! You guys are the best- helping out a random dude from the forum during your weekend. I am truly blessed to be living in a this amazing country with such wonderful neighbors.

Also, went to Rosey Toes today, made it there alive, with the rear break half dead and axel nut half screwed :) met the Ted guy, quite the character I should say.
P.S I promise To work on my English to avoid "breaking the brakes" situations in the future.
