Brampton Driver = Massive Fail

Riding in Brampton, Driving in Brampton even running on the sidewalks of Brampton has made me realize we have serious issue on our hands within the Brampton community. Reading about these recent Brampton deaths, almost being hit by morons failing to stop at stop signs on a few occasions and even almost being run over by a car who almost ran a red while doing my run on Bovaird has made me decide to post this.

I believe if enough of us write our horror stories on here we can then submit it to the Brampton Guardian and maybe begin some sort of inquiry as to why Brampton holds the highest insurance rating and finally start cracking down on the incompetent individuals who should not be allowed on our roads as they pose a serious safety hazard..

Feel free to tell your story..

These are mine

Peter Roberston and Hickory Bush Four way stop. Which often has police officers there waiting for these bad drivers to not comply with four way stop rules is one of the most dangerous spots I've encountered. I once had a car start turning full speed while i was doing a left turn (it was my turn to go at the stop sign) I had to take such a sharp turn to avoid hitting him it was one of the scariest moments of my life. We both made eye contact it was very clear it was my right of way and yet i guess he felt he could go while i was in the middle of the intersection.

Same spot again I had a cool guy with his even cooler gf in their super cool souped up 2000 acura decide to fully run the stop after pretending as though he was going to stop just so i wouldn't make the turn before he got the chance to go. He was even nice enough to smile and laugh with his gf... apparently its funny to play chicken and almost kill someone on a bike.

Running down by Bovaird and Bramalea the light had recently turned and the walk guy was bright so i continued my run however i saw the older man not stopping from the distance on bramalea headed towards the light so i slowed down he was ready to run the light and im assuming he saw my super bright asics or i had my angels with me because had i kept running obeying the rules or had he just decided to run the light i would be dead...

These are just some i could mention the countless times I've been cut off by people not checking their blind spots or just thinking they can just switch lanes without being aware of the road and its drivers/riders...

Okay first of all, I live in Woodbridge, which is also full of bad drivers. The problem I have noticed with Brampton is that every stop light is red. You drive along Bovaird or Queen and EVERY light is red. That is why Brampton is full of psycho-killers. Fix the red light issue and exterminate everyone who was born in Brampton and deport those who weren't and start all over.
Then do the same in Markham and then Woodbridge.
Thank you. Over and out.

So true about the red light situation. It's really bad sometimes. Call the city to complain about faulty lights. Had them look at the williams & James potter intersection because before Williams stayed red for minutes. I'm talking like 4 am when there are no other cars. They called me back a week or so later and said they fixed it. Still bad but not as bad as before.

Not sure I agree on the immigrants being the worst. Although there are a lot of bad ones for sure.

Too many to count...
I go there quite frequently; I feel sorry for those that live there.

I've accumulated far too many stories about driving here that I don't even know where to begin.

Second, I've watched cops blow through red lights sans cherries, so nothing will be done anyway. After all, if those who are supposed to be enforcing traffic laws break the rules themselves... you get the picture.

Similar thing happened to me in Scarborough, except I had already stopped and was proceeding because it was my turn. I was in my cage though. But the "girl friend" took it a step further. She gave me the finger cause I honked while slamming my brakes.

I think the real solution is a better licensing and testing process.
Too many idiots on the road who have no clue what's going on. Too many people still using cell phones while driving.

every one's a great driver/rider while giving their test...what happens after cannot be told for certain!

Last night, coming home going through a green light in the right lane, a little after midnight... HUGEEE douche bag makes a right and pulls out of a plaza infront of me. Didn't lock up my breaks but swerved into the left lane. Took everything I had not to kick the side view mirror off the car.

Still think I should have done it lol :)

Cops do that in York Region as well

Tougher licensing won't help, everyone knows you are supposed to stop at red lots and stop signs. It's just people, being ****ing selfish.

I have lived in Brampton for most of my life, Here are my stories, ones I can remember any ways.

Oct 1/99-- T boned at bovaird n dixie day of my wedding rehearsal.. (missed the dinner) not sure if it was a sign as I'm now single..lol but still guy got off with a ticket that got reduced in court to 50.00

Sister was nailed when some guy ran stop sign in bramalea n williams area, shes been hit so many times by none insured drivers that I cant remember them all..

2010 she was at a red light dixie n northhampton in my toyota fj 4x4 and was ran into buy yet another drunk driver with NO INS.. 17000 damage to my truck..

July 25 2012 I now get a bike and 3rd day hit from behind after taking off from a red turned to green light.

Today on 410 north in far right lane and doesn't some girl in big pick up move into my lane and almost run me over..... fml.... I see her coming and I go right to the shoulder as on on the horn.. She looks at me with this big oh **** look on her face...

My biggest issue is all these people with NO INS who cause accidents but get away with it and are back driving the next day.. The fines are not big enough to fix the problem and lets face it certain people now think they own Brampton and can do what ever they want..

It was not like this growing up I can say that much.. in the last 10 plus years is where I see it has been getting worse n worse, n now they have these scooters that people ride on the roads with no helemets and get in the way but they think they special and probably cant understand the rules let alone follow them..... Hope something changes because the red light cameras dont so anything....

I’ve lived in brampton for the last 12 years, and been riding since June 2011. My stories are quite similar.

First accident was last July. Northbound on Hwy 10 at Steeles making the double left onto Steeles Westbound. Woman in the left lane in a black civic makes a lane change from the left lane into the middle lane almost clipping the rear end of a green civic doing so. I had already moved in to the far right lane from the middle lane. She decides to change from the middle lane into the right lane with my front wheel at her rear door. Green civic slams on its brakes closes any escape gap I could have had in front of me, Mississauga transit bus behind me. Had to low-side it down onto the left side, highway bars hit the pavement and the bike bounces back up while kicking me off. I roll and slide for a few meters. Bike keeps going for about 10 meters then onto it’s right side for a pair of donuts before bumping the curb and stalling out. Both cars are stopped at the light now, I do a self check to make sure that everything is still working and stand up as the light turns green… and both cars bugger off. Bus came to a screeching halt about 2 meters from me. Other than scraped exhaust, the highway bars took all the damage. I was unhurt aside from a small tear on my eyebrow from when the helmet hit the ground and twisted from the impact. Was able to ride her home and ordered new bars that night, $300 shipped from Brockville.

Last night on the way to work, southbound on Dixie at Clark. Some ****** in a turbo’ed civic and giant fartcan in the right lane which ends after the light. Guns it at the light to keep up with me then forces his way hitting the rev-limiter the whole time, and in a Need for Speed-esque moment of douchebaggery, flips on his hazards in front of me letting me know he won. Pull up at the next light and I say “That made you feel real good about yourself, did it?” He attempted to gibber some sort of response which I couldn’t hear over the speakers or exhaust.

Typical day riding in Brampton sadly

Bad Drivers are everywhere. Tougher licensing can help but would not be a cure. It should be mandatory for all people who wish to obtain their license (being born of this country or immigrant) to take driving lessons from a government run course. Not these private "A-1" driving lessons that is available. Unfortunately these private lessons are owned and operated by people who cater more toward their own race/religion then the whole community. Half of these driving instructors have no clue of what they are teaching their students and jeopardize the safety of not only the student but the rest of us as well. Being Government owned will ensure that the instructors are properly trained individuals, and not just anybody can slap a sign on the roof of their car and give "lessons". I know that these private instructors have to go through a ministry approved training course in order to be a certified instructor, but once they have done that they are then free to open up their own business only with the minimal credentials required; which clearly is not good enough.

Yesterday Morning while I was riding along Uppermiddle road, I had a gentleman decide that his lane was not wide enough for his car and that he needed to "share" mine as well. As we approached a red light together I noticed that he was engaged in conversation on his cell phone which he held up to his left ear with his right hand. As the north/south bound lights were turning from green to yellow he decided to slowly start rolling into the intersection (with cars still traveling north). Light goes red and he keeps rolling. Westbound traffic gets an advance arrow for lefts but no one can go because this twat is now in the middle of the intersection talking away on his phone. He goes straight through the red and then guns it. Light turns green and I proceed. I see him get hung up behind a truck (that he's tailgating) that’s turning right into a side street which then allows me to catch up to him. Next set of lights turns red before we reach them and he decides that he doesn't want to wait so he runs them, just as he gets through the intersection the light turns green for us. I proceed through but notice that this dude has slowed down now to a crawl up ahead of me in the right lane (I was in the left the whole time) as I get closer (about 15 feet away) Mr. Twat decides that he's going to make a four lane U-turn. Thankfully I was anticipating something like this from him so at this point I was already off the throttle and squeezing the breaks. He missed me by maybe 12 inches and I could see he was still on the phone. At this point all I thought was enough is enough this guy is going to kill somebody. So I pulled into a parking lot and called the police (I got his license plate number) and reported his ***. Part of me in a way hopes that this A-hole ends up driving into a pole and snuffing out his own life so he can't be a hazard on the road anymore to anyone else, and the other part is that he gets caught doing this in front of a cop who fines him so badly and charges him so that he can never drive again.

Sorry for the long A** post but I wanted to give my .02 and share my latest experience.
