Apparently they prefer to congregate in the (sub) urban area do to the high concentration of food sources.
...and tree huggers to protect them.

Also a good thing to note is that an arrow strike will not immediately kill the animal, as neither will a bullet shot necessarily. If you were to do this and you impaled the raccoon, you'd need to have a good knife and some very heavy duty gloves (raccoons are extremely wild when cornered) to quickly put the animal out of its misery. So in short shooting a small animal with a bow with the possibility of impaling it and pinning it to the ground is a recipe for an up close encounter with a wounded animal. If you aren't prepared for this, don't even think about this option!
I wouldn't recommend using a knife... Try using another (better placed) bullet.
I've killed small racoons in one shot with a pellet gun before, but god did the mother racoon ever scream (for hours). It wasn't shot, it was just ****** off about the loss of the kids, in the city it would generate phone calls for sure. On the plus side, they never came back and most of them were still alive so it was successful. Really I just wanted to annoy them so they left, but the pellet gun had way more pop than I expected from a no-name import.
I said knife cause the conversation was about using a bow lol, a special consideration for small game is that you can pin them to the ground since you're almost always firing down on them and if you don't damage anything important when you do that they can take forever to bleed out. But if you were hunting with a .22 then ya you could forget the knife part. Might not be so inconspicuous in the city though.
All a good idea until the dog or cat finds a tasty treat...Another silent option is antifreeze soaked bread, just saying is all...
I may or may not have pinned an annoying barking squirrel to a tree while I was attempting to archery ground hunt for deer..
