Keep enjoying your 1190, change bikes when she starts giving your problems, by then the Husky Norden 901 will be out. Lighter, lower fuel tanks, like the KTM 790, and will keep the fun factor, save the pennies.

I guess they didn't learn from Charlie and Ewan. Bikes that size are NOT dirtbikes. Just because Chris Birch does it, doesn't mean everyone can.
You don't see Africa Twin frames braking.
Africa Twin you say:
Different frame style. KTM uses a tubular trellis frame, lots of thin walled steel arranged to take a lot of loading and torque stress -- not so good when it comes to impact. It's not a manufacturing flaw, it's a design flaw -- the impact of handling in shipments to dealers has cracked frames. Vstroms have large diameter aluminum box frames -- they are much better suited for rough going, I have never seen a broken Vstrom frame (they may exist). Not in the same budget or class..but going to guess V stroms dont have those kinds of catastrophic failures either
Ya I know it's plastic and the top box has a backrest incorporated into it for a passenger. That's not the subframe, its the rack accessory, it also comes with a low carry capacity rating Honda makes note of.
Honda sold a luggage rack for the trunk of the goldwing but rated it's capacity at something like 2 lbs.Stupid engineering.
Yikes -- what if fat momma was putting a few kgs of force on the grips? That could end up a bloody mess.Africa Twin you say:
This. Buy good used dirtbike now for cheap and leave in my garage. Don't tell wife, just say you're borrowing one of mine. Ride into trails from my driveway. Easy peasy solution.Keep the 1190 for all the reasons you bought it in the first place and buy a dirt bike,
everything else you listed is just another machine that rides on pavement, is like apples to apples. For a rider as yourself a dirt bike would be a new bike experience.
looks like another nice day for riding!
