Border trouble

I got in trouble several years ago for being dumb and trying to avoid a lot of tax.

For 3-4 years after that every time I crossed I had to go into the inspection area. A customs agent would check my car, 30 seconds later I'd be on my way. I did cross once in Ganonoque, the customs guy there was entirely too polite about it. Do you know why you're being pulled into inspection, sir?

After a few years they stopped pulling me in. I haven't had any problems since.

How could they actually prove this? Unless you decided to roll across the border with 22' Rimzzzzz

Brand new, sparkling rims on the car and the old dirty stock rims inside the car. I tried to say that I picked up an original set for the wintertime, surprisingly they didn't buy it. Lessons we learn!

My missus and I got pulled a couple of years back with too much stuff after a days shopping, underdeclaring etc etc. We got a bollocking and had to pay the tax and duty. The old **** who inspected us also tried to make me pay duty on some company giveaways I always carry in my car as well. He said "you're flagged now, Everytime you cross....". Yeah right. STFU you old twat.

Since then I've crossed by road about 10 times and not been stopped once. It's BS. They're either too lazy or too stupid. In that time I've crossed with a parts only motorbikeI was importing they didn't even bother leaving their office to inspect. They couldn't even be bothered looking in the back of the trailer to see if what I was declaring was even there. Which was just as well because I'd bought a ton of other stuff to bolt on to my parts only track bike. And I've also crossed with a trailer full of motorcycles after a Jennings trip and boxes of other stuff that I'd bought down there. LIke I said, unless you were a complete moron they're either too lazy or too stupid to bother.

I think the point about "losing the front plate" is that if you are flagged for inspection it's usually based on the license plate. So if you go to the MTO and pay $10 for new plates, they won't pull you any more. I think ?

Last time I went through the border I counted 16 cameras on my vehicle. How could they possibly miss the front plate?

Unless I read this wrong I don't think you need to worry. You gave all receipts in when asked, you didn't try to hide anything. I always give an approximate value to the booth guy and then give all receipts in inside where they calculate an exact value.

One guy I know got pinched for false price declaration....

picked up a bike motor in the states he bought through ebay, got the seller to give him a receipt citing about half the value he paid, what he forgot to do was get rid of the printed "you are the successful bidder" where it noted the price he had won with... DOH !!!!

Personally I have almost never had an issue crossing, be honest, tell them up front what you have, have the receipts.
We had a Cdn border guard get all pissy once because they asked how much we had, told them approximate amount, I think it was something like $250 (did some rough math), gave them the receipts, she totalled and compalined we only gave her $230, where was the other receipt.

We apparenty over stated how much we we returneing with

seasoned cross border shoppers know the way to avoid future unwarranted aggravation is to lose their front plate (the one without the validation sticker) as the replacement is only $20 instant clean border history = priceless

Just please explain how the hell does replacing a licence plate erase a note on immigration records?

Not true.

For ever?
FML this has to be one of the worst weeks of my life.

Not forever, but for the next six years that note will appear on your record. After that it will go away.

You have 90 days to appeal the decision to the Recourse Directorate in Niagara.

If you want the address PM me.

Do we have to pay taxes on shipping? A custom agent charged me taxes on shipping cost to CIBI.
