Boogie or Shanonville?

^This!

Shannoville (long) has a good layout, better than TMP in my opinion, but a short straight and awful bumpy rattling asphalt. I wouldn't bother with the 2+ hours it takes me to get there. I would rather put in 2 more hours and experience what many call the best track in Canada!

The grip levels at Bogie are like that of European professional tracks. Though there is no 300kph straight, you can push 270 on one of the straights. Take turn 4 at roughly 180kph and learn how to take turn 5 just right and you could be up to 270kph on a "straight" that is roughly as long as TMP's

The track is very very fast and flowing with at least 3 corners at 165kph to 180kph with knees down.

TMP has my TC light lit up out of almost every turn, where as my TC light never blipped once at Bogie....which means I had quite a lot of room to improve despite setting red group times on my first day there.

A few riders have told me that a 1:20 at TMP is equivalent to 2:20 at Bogie. I recall you saying you run a 1:17 at TMP and from having seen how fast you learn a track I can see you hitting 2:20 to 2:25 in your first outing. With those times, Bogie's surface is like rails!

I know you like to slide...but just imagine the drive you're gonna get at Bogie!!!!

Shannonville is also flat and boring. Bogie is undulating with blind crests and decreasing radius turns. It truly is a mix of all the best elements of every other track. All it is missing is an 800m (proper) straight.

The facilities are top notch, clean, new, superb.

Down side: You will likely need to camp. Price. New riders forced to pay $30 extra and parade behind a guide for 2 sessions. poor run off. No food...BRING YOUR OWN FOOD!!!!

I have videos of my sessions at both. Take a peak:

PS I met you once a couple years back at both our first times at TMP. I was running my then black 2009 ZX10R. I showed up riding in with a back pack and you let me use your cooler and tire gauges. Glad to see you recovered from the Jamaica accident and back on the track. You have a natural talent!

Thanks I found GB to be the 2.0 version of TMP, nicer pavement slightly more interesting layout (alien), but again just the lack of top speed, elevation, and corner speeds left me wanting more. Since I just did Mosport on the Thurs before, I was still craving for that higher corner speeds and coming over crests with that oh **** feeling. And now from all the comments Im getting the feeling that Shanonville would be the 3.0 version.

I dont like sliding on the track on purpose its obviously not the fastest way around most tracks and even if it is its on the way in not out, its just I am not uncomfortable with a little rear wheel steering or drifting, so if I do break loose I am usually able to handle it. Even on my motard at GB there was only one turn were I felt I could benift from sliding in. I also didn't use my TC at all at Mosport and my tire only broke loose once all day, and that was because it just started to rain and it got a little slick. I also did not have any warmers so I took the first 2 laps easy before going hard, but I plan to buy them very soon. At Mosport I just reeled in and passed a GSXR 750 in red group before there was a crash and we got red flagged, he had a timer on his bike and said he was doing 1:31. Im not sure how good that is for an average joe, but he was one of the faster riders I had to work harder to pass as his bike would pull mine a little in the straight sections. Tons of fun! I didnt really learn the proper fast line until John moved me to red, especially that last turn before the straight, it seemed no one in yellow ran the line like the red guys were....

And thanks if feels good to go fast again and feel confident doing it, since I lost a lot of vision in my right eye I've been trying to adapt with depth perception and speed judgement again...

My mind is made up Im going to sign up for Boogie most likely for the 14-15th, and I guess I'll have to buy a tent...LOL Im not really the camping type besides the BBQ but I guess its time to learn now that I want to do these track days more often...TMP and GB are great bang for the buck tracks, also really good for beginners like my friend that came out to GB with us, but Im really craving the big track feel, so I dont mind spending the extra money to travel and try out these larger tracks...

Thanks for the imput maybe I'll try Shanonville next year when I get bored of the rest..

PS nice vid, thats the **** Im talking about!

Looks like all it really is missing is a flat out straight, there is just nothing like topping out a sport bike

Shannonville is not the 3.0 to TMP. The surface is rough but that adds to the complexity of learning the track and there are smooth lines you just need to find them. I would do both tracks but if your looking for blinding speed and elevation you'd be better off at boogie.

So I did Mosport on Thurs with Riders Choice... Grand bend yesterday with GTAM,
Ha we were on the same schedule I did both days also the weather was too good to pass up. body is tired though.

I haven't done bogie but in comparison GB is tighter than shanny, surface is better at GB. You'll have fun at shanny

Shannonville long track is a fun configuration. No one is mentioning that they have repaved sections at shanny. No more hard bump in T1 as T1 is all new pavement.

Still, it's a 2-dimentional track like TMP and GB.

Calabogie is a beautiful track. Lots of turns, elevation changes, and beautiful pavement. Facilities are great. Showers/bathrooms are way nicer than any other Ontario track I've been to.

Hit up Calabogie to see what it's all about. You won't be disappointed. I think they also have a 14/15 weekend going on.

So you rode the supermoto at GB? How did it do against the sport bikes? I've never been to GB, but the long straight at TMP kills me.

The backstraight at GB is also a killer for supermotos on their layouts (more so on some layouts than screaming alien which was run this weekend).

Yeah I did pretty good I think, considering it was my first time riding it outside of a parking lot in a straight line. I was happy that I was able to ride it in the style I wanted, I was riding sport bike style knee down and never put my foot out once...I was moving pretty good until I low sided my last session, but I really need to sort the bike out, as I am running completely stock suspension setup, I have not even adjusted it from the stock settings...And I am getting a chatter in the front wheel when I push hard in corners it starts to chatter and feels like its going to push and wash out...The straight there is short but still too long for my SM, 75% down I redline 5th then I try to keep it off the limiter till the first turn which I also take in 5th. I still managed to pass alot of 600's in yellow group, but I had to work hard in the in field, so I could get a decent gap before the straight so I could hold them off. Some would pass me back again at the end of the straight but then I would just reel them in again in the slow sections....If I went again I would gear the bike a little taller and see if that could keep me off the limiter in 5th on the straight...

What gearing were you running? In my experience at TMP, I found that going to low on the gearing helps gain some time on the straight, but they loses it all in the infield.

For example, I ran a low 1:22 with 14-45 (160 km/h on straight) and mid 1:23-1:24 with 14-42 (166 km/h on the straight).

If you weight around 160-180 lb, the stock suspension shouldn't be too bad. I race a whole year on stock suspension and actually won the national Novice title. The bike pushing wide and front chattering probably had something to do with your riding road race style, which does not put enough weight on the front tire (your head should be over the handlebars to keep the bike neutral).

Depends on configuration. If they are using the shorter straight it isn't too bad. You'll get caught at the end of the straight but be able to make it up in the infield.

The backstraight at GB is also a killer for supermotos on their layouts (more so on some layouts than screaming alien which was run this weekend).

Thanks, I'll probably make it out to the next track day with the screaming alien config. Do they post what kind of configuration the track will be running in advance?

Stock gearing, and not a ****ing clue what I am doing out there as far as body position.....Just riding it the way that I feel I can, didn't see any true motards there to follow...There was one or 2 but I dont think there was any 450's.

I dont think I need Ohlins or anything but I think even a simple suspension setup would help, as I am basically riding it on straight out of the crate settings....I weight only 160

Another thing is tires, I got there with 18lbs in both....I tried 26 rear 28 front after, but again I am not sure if that is right or not...They are Dunlop slicks I bought from Pro6, I think they are for 125 GP bikes...I had to return the SM tire they sold me because it would not hold air...

I'll see if any of my friends got any vid or pics of me so you can grade my body position and give me a tip or 2

According to the GB site they only have a couple motorcycle lapping days left (the Thursday and Friday before the soar events) which would be the same config as the soar races. In september it would be reverse screaming alien and October would be Long track which would be a lot harder for a supermoto to keep up (more straights and longer straights).

I'll see if any of my friends got any vid or pics of me so you can grade my body position and give me a tip or 2

I saw some of your friends taking pics near the exit of turn 4 throughout the day. If they ended up with any of the black and blue gixxer with green tape over the lights please let me know.

There's a couple of motels in Calabogie itself if you're dead set on NOT camping. There's a pizza place and a bar in town that does okay food. A lot of people sleep at the track (I do) so you won't be alone. Even if it's just random raccoons eating your food at night.

If you can, sign up for 2 days. It's a long drive for one day and a long track to learn in one day. 20 turns and every one a bit different.

I'm just back from 2 days there. Love the place.

If you do go then try to watch as much video before you go. Try to learn the flow of the track at the very least.

I'll be up there again for the 14, 15, 16.

I just signed up for the 14th-15th today with a friend, Id stay for the 16th but I use my work delivery truck and it has to be back for monday. And I think Im going to buy a cot or air mattress and sleep on that in the back of the truck. I just dont like sleeping on the floor in sleeping bag or tents, and were pretty good with the BBQ so I will probably bring my own food.

And I have been watching a lot of video, I really like these ones from this girl Renee, shes flying out there. The video quality and should plus how hard shes riding gets me exited

She's a bit quicker now. The Moto Nation crew are good guys (and girls). They will probably be there for the 14th & 15th.

Ah yes forgot to mention 'bogie is a great opportunity to practice your Frenglish. Repeat after me.

"Ah c'est mes maudits tires encore"
"Calisse j'ai faille crasher sur les brakes dans 5!"
"Comment qu'y fait pour shifter en 6e sur la straight, tabarnack?"

Let me know when you decide to get out to pavement or track somewhere again. I'm not a pro, but I can help you with whatever I can as far as body positioning.
