BMW M1000 RR

I am actually confused at what this is. Is this some kind of homologation special?

When they put wings on a bike and you do a wheelie where does that leave you? You have a ton of drag, no downforce and the wings actually increase the force trying to flip the bike over.

No, the current S1000RR is already homologated, even though the WSBK engine is very different. The M1000RR seems closer to the WSBK engine than the S1000RR.

I think it's a branding exercise to bring the M designation over from cars to motorcycles.

There will probably be M versions of other motorcycles in the line-up.

Those winglets will now be allowed in WSBK though.

$42K CDN. That's a lot of Deutschmarks!

See, that was my first thought, but I don't think crossing those wires is a good idea.

If you compare like a BMW 330 sedan to an M3, it is obvious what the differences are. One is a normal(ish, overpriced) sedan to be used for normal car things, and the other is a (supposedly, overpriced) factory tuned high performance variant.

That doesn't work for BMW Motorrad. They don't make a "normal" bike, every single one is targeted at a specific niche. And it makes even less sense for the S1000RR - it is literally already designed with winning races in mind. It's not like they handed it off to a different branch of the company with different design goals, it'll be the same engineers with a higher parts budget. I think the HP4 branding actually worked better for that purpose

ugh, I need to eat lunch, I forgot that I don't actually care this much about branding, or BMW

There is already an M option for the current S1000RR; Carbon Fibre Wheels, a few carbon fairing parts, battery, some adjustable chassis parts, more performance based ECU settings (Race, Pro1, Pro2, Pro3 . . . the most subdued is "Race"?!), maybe a few other things. Back to back, they feel like different bikes. $ 29,000 CDN

I'm pretty sure this is the next homologation special over-and-above the existing M-option on the S1000RR. (The little wings at the front is a tip-off.) Someone in the WorldSBK racing team said "we need this to be part of a production bike"; here you go. Worth noting that at the end of the video posted, 66 is the WSBK racing number of Tom Sykes.

If you have to do that, might as well put it through a marketing exercise.

BMW has changed what 'M' means.
In cars you can get an 'M' package on almost any car. An 'M" package 330 is not an M3.
They have brought this over to Motorad. The 'M' package S1000RR is not the same as this bike. There are massive internal changes to this bike. Is it worth the price? meh..... depends on how you view value I guess.
....and yes this is the new Homologation bike.

That's not a seat rendered by someone who's ever hung off a motorcycle (owes a debt to the RSV4, too...)

Digital Rendering I suspect by someone who doesn't really know motorcycles.
Front wheel travel looks limited by the fairing, Rear subframe is just a bit too spindly and the rear wheel is a half a length too far behind the bike.
(and, the seat is not for corners)

Looks fast just standing still though.
