Blown fork seal?

I got a quote from Clare's cycle here in the Niagara area, they said 60 for the seals and 75 labour total for both forks. From what others are saying that seems really low for labour.

That's a lot lower than what I was quoted from, well, everywhere. This is why I decided to learn how to do it myself.

My extent of work on the bike so far is replacing hids and changing the oil. I'm worried if I do it myself I'll damage the internals or the inner tubes, making it a much more expensive repair. If they change the price at the last minute there are a couple members on here that offered to do it for less than what a shop would charge

I consider myself pretty handy with a wrench but forks/shocks/tire changes get sent to the pros. That price should be for both and it sounds like you can take the forks off without any issues.

I hear you about tire changes... I tried multiple times last year to change my own damn tires... 3 big tire spoons, lots of lube and I can manage to get them off... And I can manage to get them 3/4 of the way on, but I lack the finesse for that last little bit. Despite being shown and attempting for at least an hour before I'll let anyone else dig in to finish it for me... But one day, I'll get it figured out and hopefully be half decent at it! Sucks dishing out money when I blow a tube or need new rubber.

Forks and shocks, next winter if I have the proper place to be doing rebuilds, I'll be rebuilding my own stuff.

Oh, and ALWAYS do both at the same time as they work as a pair. Oil breaks down fairly quickly, one with fresh and one with old isn't a balanced pair, and you may not know the amount of oil in the other fork which also affects the performance.

We always use stock seals on forks. They cost a bit more, but they are less likely to leak. We've tried a couple different respected aftermarket brands, but just stick with stock stuff... Even when I had mine sent back from FC.

Yep, sticking with OEM seals and both forks are getting done

Check out SKF seals, they seem to be highly recommended and look to be much better vs oem. Ordered a set for my VFR :)

Its not like the motorcycle mfg's make their own seals. the oil seals are standard seals. just make sure they are double lip oil seals and made with good quality rubber and have a reinforcement spring in the back.

And the only way you can ensure this...buy from the OEM or buy a good quality seal from a reputable seal mfg.
