Black Friday & Cyber Monday

I'll start by saying this is NOT a "Poo-Poo" post.
Just my observation based on my interests and opinions.

While I am typically moderately excited about sweet deals, this year was (to me at least) very lack luster in regards to deals.
Many sites listed the same products for the same prices, these typically were older (or over) stock or less popular options.
I even watched some news articles online that showed stores getting ready for big crowds yet never even came close to previous years.

So, in conclusion, what were your findings for Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2022?

Solid meh. I didn't buy anything. I didn't see any deals good enough to trigger an impulse buy. Normal sale prices at best.

EDIT:
Strongly considered a new ski helmet as they were 50% off. Aborted as helmet fit is so important.

Only thing that was discounted seemed to be cell plans. Got 20gb for $30/m with rollover data for a couple family members.

I bought a toy for the kids….yes…the kids…

$110 off regular price so I was happy with it.

Now need to buy my wife a new KOBO as the kids killed her current one.

Lol gun stores have black friday sales? Are they allowed to even sell anything anymore

As time goes on I’m actually favouring the bolt action style stuff. It’s just a bit more satisfying for me to have a well engineered bolt action vs a poorly executed pot metal semi auto. To get a decent semi auto that’s actually made well you’re into multiple $k and those have heat scores on them right now too.

Didn't they just amend some bill to ban ALL semi automatic rifles and shotguns?

pretty much…will have to wait and see what actually happens. Rimfire stuff should escape unscathed plus it’s way cheaper to buy anyway. The shotguns applies to magazine fed ones so tube fed should still be fine.

any bolt built on the mauser platform is generally pretty good , I've had others but the most expensive builders in the world are pretty convinced mauser figured it out , thats close enough for me.

I am a bit concerned about amendments that would kill off semi auto shotguns. Sometimes shooting clay targets you just want your day to be easier, 3 shells in a gas operated 12g is not likely a potential terrorist threat

Guess this should actually be in the shooting thread

I also bought nothing on B friday or Cyber monday, nothing I considered was a deal.

My findings not much deals. I was in the market for a new GPU, the pricing finally came down to somewhat normal levels. Started sourcing it out end of Oct and was seeing them on sale repeatedly. Bought it before Black Friday, and checked over the week-end and it was the same price I bought it for. 🤷‍♂️
GPU was Nivida 3060Ti 8 gig

I heard there were stupid good deals on plans and phones at Rogers and Fido.

But then I realized I don’t actually have the time to go and wait in line at a store.

There were some pretty good deals online on the Five HG1 gloves I been eyeballin... they were just out of stock

Got my wife a leather jacket from Michael Kors for half price and a pair of carbides for my sled at no-tax.
Any helmet deals out there? I washed my MC and MX lids yesterday and decided my bike helmet should finally be replaced.
Edit - browsing FC Moto now at the HJC RPHA 70ST I had my eye on last year. My current RPHA 10 was made NOV 2014 and has been great over around 200,000km.

Telus called me today to try to get me to switch. ~$52/month/phone for 100G data/line, unlimited canada minutes, Voicemail 10. I have 100G of shared data now, that would give me even more data I don't need. I want lower bills not more useless data.

Out of the big three, Telus/Koodo is the only one that keeps wasting my time by calling me up as an existing customer and trying to upsell me. Not even with a discount in hand! They are literally calling me to remind me that they sell other plans and phones that cost more money
