Bike won't start after 10 days of sitting idle

Ok...........folks..............it was the KILL SWITCH , what a dumb mistake................ :D

lol. That'll be the last time you make that mistake.

Glad I (we) caught it =)

It happens. Glad it wasn't something wrong. On my SuperDuke, when the kill switch is activated, there is nothing on the dash; no lights, no speedo, no warnings, no nothing... but the headlight comes on. That took me a few minutes to figure out the first time it happened.

I know some other bikes like BMW's have a "rocker" style kill switch, so its no obvious that this has happened as the switch springs back into place.

Good on ya for manin' up, mistakes happen, lesson learned

Can you make another video, this time with the bike starting? Just hate to leave this thread with a non-starting bike vid :D

Most of us have done it one time or the other and it's a fav prank as weil. Good for you for owning up to it - ya sure feel dumb....been there done that

I'm pretty new to my Burgman, it's got 295 miles on it and I had 1,000 miles on the one I just traded in. So I'm new, but not completely new. Anyhow....

I parked in a parking ramp at the hospital for a doctor appointment. I'd ridden around 15 miles today before going to the doc. I come out from the appointment and she won't start. I double check the side stand. The dash shows the oil light and the word "chec". I turn it off and back on a few times. I finally call the dealer's service department. Their solution: bring it in! I'm 80 miles away and it won't start..... They tell me where and how to check the oil, but I keep dropping the phone call because of the parking ramp. It looks either very full or very empty, I can't tell which, it's dark in this parking ramp.

I finally called a local friend (he rides a Harley) who came over with a flashlight, some oil and a few basic tools. He checks the oil and says it's full. I popped off the plastic and he looked at the oil fill and coolant fill because I made him look. He asked how it sounded when I tried to start it. I demonstrated what happens when I tried.... nothing. He tried to start it by turning the key and I had to show him how to start the Burgman. While I'm teaching him how to do it, he noticed that the kill switch is in the kill position. Switched it to "run" and she started right up.

Yes, I'm feeling a little stupid. I'm just glad it wasn't something serious.

another new rider with the same issue

I did that once too. I never turn the bike off with the switch, only the key, but i was on a trip 200 miles from home, leaving a friends place at midnight to make the ride home, and was out in their dark parking lot behind their building hitting the start button and thinking man my bike died 200 miles from home! lol. Took about 2 minutes of retries thinking my battery was dying, then i finally noticed the switch was off. I think my gf's daughter must have accidentally pressed it earlier that night when we were sitting her on the seat to take pictures while the bike was off. LOL from then on any time the bike doesn't start right away i look at that switch.

In the gearing up safety course they teach you to always use the kill switch to turn off the bike. The first thing i do when i hop on mine is flip it to "run".

Re: Bike won't start after 10 days of sitting idle [FIXED]
