Bike Thefts, time to do something ourselves . . .

That's why you'd want to time delay it by a few minutes, so they abandon the bike AND the van, and wind up on foot.

Or into a brick wall, wearing a new model sport bike

If I remember correctly smoke grenades get rather hot and they have a zero delay fuse. Odds are that the bike wouldn't even be in the van when the thing went off, after which time the would-be thieves would be leaving behind a burning wreck.

You could make a cool burning smoke grenade for small enclosed places but you'd need to get your hands on TiCl4 which isn't controlled but probably not easily accessible. When that contacts water you get thick clouds of titanium dioxide.

My initial thoughts were Themite, but I would be responsible for the damage so I decided against it ;P

What happens if you crash with any of these "tilt-sensor activated" "deterrents" on your bike? Surely you can't just remove it from the bike before you ride, or the thief could do so before stealing it.

It would need to be armed/disarmed between rides. I'm thinking if the ignition is on, it gets disarmed.

Then instead of a tipover senser, a real wheel speed sensor (ABS if equipped, otherwise a sensor by the transmission sproket). Then add a timer.

So if the ignition is off, and the rear wheel moves, then five minutes later the smoke bomb goes off unless disarmed again with the ignition before the time runs out.

Now just need someone to build it.
