Bike Thefts, time to do something ourselves . . .

One little smoke grenade canister that I could "aquire" from work would full a van up in about 5 seconds. It's about the size of a can of pop and it would be very easy to rig it up to work and keep hidden.

Okay, fine. I'll concede. Group buy on smoke grenades and associated items to make it work... Go.

Are different colours of smoke available? Red or green would be good just so people don't think the van is burning oil when it drives through the streets.

Sorry, it's a controlled item, not possible if I want to keep my job!

Yep. Green, red, purple, yellow, white etc.
They seriously wouldn't make it to a road before it was smoking so bad they would have to bail out of the vehicle.

rmemedic - Would the paintball smoke device accomplish the same type of smoke coverage? I play paintball occasionally but do not have any experience with those types of "grenades". I know the military spec ones are good for tonnes of smoke but they heat they create may melt the plastic and/or wires on most bikes.

If I remember correctly smoke grenades get rather hot and they have a zero delay fuse. Odds are that the bike wouldn't even be in the van when the thing went off, after which time the would-be thieves would be leaving behind a burning wreck.

how about a smoke grenade set off by a proximity sensor so that when it leaves the area of lets say 50ft. or more then it will go off.. if it's small enough you could leave it in your exhaust pipes?having the spoke pour out the exhaust and would be very difficult to pull out with fingers because you couldnt see :D

This guy made his own and think is quick and thick

I'm not worried about somebody stealing my motorcycle. I have a GPS on it, and if they steal it and get riding around, and press "Go Home" on the navigation screen, guess where they will end up.

MY HOUSE! And I'll be there, ready.

They get hot but not that hot. I doubt they would even melt through a set of zip ties. You can pick them up with gloved hands after they stop smoking.

But yes, a zero delay fuse. I would say it would be so much of a disturbance they would just get back in the van and take off, the bike wouldn't even make it out of the parking space. Would draw so much attention to the scene and it would surprise them enough they would just leave I assume.

I could see this working haha. Maybe Pegasus will try it as an expansion to his security system?

Thats what i was thinking when i suggested this idea. Might even cause them to leave the stolen van, letting the owner of that vehicle get their property back. Seems like a win-win.

Now we just need a person to develop such a device.

as much as i want a real sport bike. i just cant imagine myself having to deal with all of this to protect it. i guess i'll be keeping my little sport touring.

i was never good at posing anyway.

there's always the old fashioned way with a gnarly chain http://bluestreakracing.ca/locks-al...ains/oxford-monster-2m-chain-and-padlock.html

wonder if i should test it out for you guys with a cordless angle grinder to see how long it takes to cut.

That's why you'd want to time delay it by a few minutes, so they abandon the bike AND the van, and wind up on foot.
