Bike parking at the EX?

I'm from wayyyyy out of town. GF and I are making the 5ish hour ride Saturday to go to the EX and have one of those crosaunt doughnut burger things. So I don't know what the parking is like for bikes.
I don't have a friend in the area where I can park the bike at and take transit, and I am not sure how the free bike parking works in TO if it still does. (I might, possibly, be able to get a free parking pass for the ex though).
Don't really want to spend $30 to park my bike.

Not exactly sure what to do with helmets and jackets. Typically we lock them to the bike, and while that is safe in Ottawa, it makes me nervous to do that in Toronto with all the idiots walking around. Maybe a cover is enough to prevent someone from messing with an easy target as a joke (like pissing in a helmet)
We're coming from the east end of the city.

I could take the truck, but that turns my $50 round trip in to at least $150 and there is no way to find free parking for that thing... And it won't fit in some underground lots (had a hell of a time during supercross weekend).

You park for free with a motorcycle wherever there is paid parking required (if theres a no parking sign then they can ticket you)...plus usually whenever i park anywhere i try to find a corner on a sidewalk to park it, dont leave it with the rest of the cars parked. Bringing your bike cover would be a decent idea to prevent people with playing around with your bike and sitting on it.

Don't park on the sidewalks even if you see other bikes there. You will be ticketed. I recommend parking north of the Gardiner on a metered street and walking down to the EX.

Hrmm really? i didnt know they ticket you for putting it on the sidewalk in a corner somewhere. I've parked my bike on sidewalks literally everytime i go downtown or danforth never got a ticket

RetroGrouch is right. Find a street metered parking spot (that's the only free parking, no free parking in lots).

Inside the Direct energy building they have storage you can use. You basically "rent" a storage box like a coat check while you are there.

Even better, drive your truck to a go station and take the train. It stops right @ the ex.

Awesome guys thanks!
Are these storage bins big enough to fit a helmet? Normal width lockers that you normally see where you rent the key aren't wide enough usually.

Imagine on the way back home on your bike and you need to shat some

They looked like the plastic totes you see in stores, where the lid is split to fold open. They seemed big enough for a helmet+ but I only got a glance at them. You"d be looking at at least two of them for 2 helmets and jackets.

With all the traffic/construction I think the GO train is the better option.

Yes. My girl and I rode to the ex a few years ago. We parked on Atlantic Ave. (metered street parking) - walk to the end of the street, through the GO station and you're in the EX!... Then find the lockers, and you're all set.

Taking home the HUGE stuffed banana we won that day was another (fun) challenge, LOL

On the street, yes, not in Green P lots. Although they do seem to leave bikes alone there.

You can also park somewhere like Yorkdale for free and subway down.

You could also park here around or near this square surrounded by Douro, Crawford: http://goo.gl/maps/o3etH pretty quiet area usually.
Walk to the DE building in 5 mins for storage if you want.

I'm working at the EX this year and so far i've only ridden down ONCE. Although there is NO employee parking whatsoever, I had the pleasure of parking right next to our trailer, secluded from all the frenzy. Getting home though was another story. Just leaving the grounds is chaos as hundreds of cars are all trying to exit at the same time. Getting to the Gardiner was another mission as the corner of King and Spadina is completely shut down. Had to go north, then further east just to get on. Eastbound Gardiner is reduced to 2 lanes until the DVP so that was more chaos. I live in Scarborough btw.

My suggestion, GO train or any other means of public transportation would be your best bet...
