Sounds like the carbs. Get them cleaned. Then add a ZZR600 fuel rail filter (if it fits your carbs and your bike doesn't already have a filter) to avoid any future problems.
For example, the ZZR600 and EX/500R both use the same carbs. The ZZR came from the factory with the fuel rail filter but the EX/500R didn't. It's cheap and works like a charm.
