Bike indoors

non heated garage is good enough. If you wanna go the extra step just take out the battery and store it indoors.

You really want to be careful of putting the bike indoors. If gasoline wasn't used in cars to get us around you would need a special licence to handle it. People have lost their house's and lives of loved ones to this. Yes many people will say "I stored my motorcycle in my house and I had no problem", but unfortunately that isn't the case with everyone, and it's better not to be a statistic. you would want to drain the entire fuel system, fortunately there's no carbs on either set of bikes but the fuel injectors can get gummed up. you also would want to make it so no fumes remain in your gas tank. I brought a bike into a work room in my house for one winter, the tank was empty and off the bike (it was getting repainted and the carbs were drained so that there was no gas in the bike to go boom. Leaving it on stands in your garage is fine. If you're really worried, talk to ken (kneedragger88) and have him store your bike, his rates are very reasonable (I considered storing my track bike with him so I didn't have to flush out the water wetter and put coolant in it), he does all the work of winterizing and unwinterizing it and depending on your area he picks up and drops your bike.

Check with your insurance co .. im willing to bet they wont allow it.

Plus if you do have an issue and have to make a claim, and they find out your bike is INSIDE your house your claim will be denied.

Silly enough we have a bike in the living room (theres usually at least one bike in the house and a few engines laying around. That being said. Cruisin Girl is right... need to be careful with the fuel... Fumes alone can explode with just static electricity.

Who puts their bike(s) inside for the winter?

I don't have a heated garage so I was thinking of moving at least my wife's bike (2011 CBR250R) inside.

what is your issue with a non heated garage?

Have you looked into a storage unit? You can get a 3x5 pretty cheap, and I'm sure a cbr250 will slide into one no problem.

This.

I didn't even bother putting any stabilizer last season and the bike started right up in the spring.
All I did was put the bike on stands and pull the battery out.

Bikes are longer than you think. Might barely squeeze in diagonally.

Ya it'll be tight. I checked one out for my bike and it would just barely fit, and my bike is frigin huge. You also have to watch out as some of those units vary in size slightly (we're talking inches).

If you do this, bring a measuring tape. ;)

+1 on the fuel concerns if you store indoors. Makes a nice piece of furniture though, if you do drain the fuels from it. It's amazing how many people store lawn mowers and gasoline cans in their basements. Every now and then one goes boom.

If you do store in a shed beware of rodents. Mothballs may keep them away but be very wary and take precautions. I've had one snowmobile killed by mice and extensive rehab work required on one motorcycle. They love to pack insullation around the cylinder heads and make a nest. At the least make sure you do a VERY thorough check and clean in the spring.

I've done for the last 3 years straight, usually 2 bikes, a 600 and a 750.

I have rebuilt two bike inside a rented apartment.
I figgered the gas may kill a few cockroaches.

I store indoor every year. Called insurance company first and they didn't care. I asked that they check my policy to see if there was a clause that would prohibit doing so and they couldn't find anything.

Re the risk of flammables, yip it concerns me but the odds against the fuel igniting is pretty slim.

But, did you check your home insurance policy? I'll be calling both my bike insurance and home insurance company if I decide to put my bike(s) inside. I really can't see how they would care, since their in your garage, which is in most cases attached yo your house.
