Bike finger print starter

At first glance the concept is really cool, but then not being electronics savvy, I am appealing to the gurus for their feedback on this:

Its cool technology, but the ability to not work when you want it, wearing gloves? not so much fun.

we had them in an office on some door locks, couple guys that did a lot of real work outside the office never had finger prints that would read. My lap top has one, I disabled it.

Yeah, not the technology I want to rely on to start my bike. My phone unlocks maybe one out of 5 times using a finger print. Nothing wrong with an old school key!

IMHO, in retrospect it is just an extra complication i.e. gadgetry for it's sake. Plus it would need gloves off and who knows if it is weather proof.

Good technology. Stupid on a bike. Just like a tesla having 6 different ways to lock unlock.

Gimmick. Often annoying for the real owner to access and not that hard for the bad guys to get through. What's the matter with a key? If I wanted to install a keyless system, it would definitely be a code lock. Hard to circumvent, easy to enter (even with gloves), no key to lose.

What about a key-less fob, the same that cars have, would that be a workable alternate?
Would it be possible to reverse engineer it's fitment?
(ok, I know that a twist of the wrist is all that a regular ignition switch requires and a key-less fob is another piece of convenience overkill)
Just asking.

Another stupid idea. You still have to keep our on your person.

Keyless ignition is already a thing on the more expensive bikes (model dependent).

I like it, jump on, power on, crank and go. No fishing in your pocket or leaving it in the bike situations.

Obviously this opens up issues like the bike not starting due to transmission/dead battery. People have already been cloning the transmission signals on cars to mimic the signal to start them, i expect bike thieves will/are following.

There's always a downside to advancing technology, doesn't mean we shouldn't do it.

recent years Ducati Multistrata + Diavel and the latest gen Honda Gwing all have OEM wireless key fobs. I'm sure there is a few others i'm missing too.
Bmw, ktm, Indian, Harleys

I think its cool. My only concern is when I do a lot of manual work I can't unlock my work iPhone8 using the button as my prints get all buggered up. The key-less fob seems simpler and more reliable

My last phone (one plus 7) I used the fingerprint all the time, but ran into similar issues.

New phone (Samsung note 10+) i just use face unlock. Works 98% of the time and it's much more convenient.

After a couple of years, make sure you have an extra battery for the key fob.

To be honest. Between cloning a fob and just picking up your bike and throwing it in the back of a van, both are about the same investment of time. A motorcycle will be stolen by just moving it. A car, cloning fobs is a real concern for theft cause two big guys aren't gonna be able to pick it up and walk off with it.

I would look at a keyfob for a motorcycle as a convenience and not as a deterrent. Easier when walking away, easier when walking up.

They do not need to "clone" fobs, man in the middle attack to make the car (or bike) think the fob is near by (can be as simple as an amplifier and some antennas). Stand between the vehicle and the house with the device, key fob is usually close enough in the house to make the connection by doing so. Once the vehicle is started it will keep running until shut off--by design, its a safety thing, even long after the fob has lost contact. Worse they get is an annoying chime. Shut off it will not start again. Some vehicles are much more susceptible than others. Fobs are dumb IMO, I am sure insurance will, if they have not already, charge more for vehicles that use them....

Finger print start is also not a great idea, I bet there will be lots of failures or just times it will not start.

Judging by the number of Toyotas that drive away in the night, there is a substantial hole in their security. I know some people that lost one Toyota so they got another one and kept the keys in a metal can with a lid well away from the vehicle. A year later, gone again. I'm not sure what they got this time. They like the vehicle but at some point insurance will have had enough.

Yes, Lexus is one of the worse.... For the person you know, the fob they use was in the can (Faraday Cage) but the car comes with two....
