Bike Chain Maintenance

1) I NEVER wash my chain with water, or soap, or anything except kerosene.

Then it gets coated with Dupont Multi use ( bought several before they changed the flavour).

I always put my bike on the rear stand, start it up and run it in 1st gear while applying Dupont, then run it in 2nd gear and spray the chain from every angle I can. Would not recommend this method, but I trust my Pit Bull stand(s) and haven't had anything go bad yet.

My chain usually gets cleaned ~ 1000kms (at one time was daily) and lubed prior to leaving the house - every time I ride.

I use the soap & water to get rid of the kero so as not to affect the lube.

I've heard rave reviews about the Dupont Multi-Use, however never got a chance to try it before they discontinued it. Good move stock piling!

My concern being anywhere near the running chain is something, anything getting caught in the sprocket... there's many examples of days gone bad. That said, I've run up the bike on the rear stand to dry / warm the chain prior to lubing.

I think you'll find that most lube manufacturers recommend lubing a warm chain which is why I do it upon return from a ride.

I couldn't care less about chain maintenance in the context of the topic, but I am loving this debate. Great minds battling it out and I have a front row seat.

I lube sometimes.

Lol. I am releasing a new video in the very near future to my YouTube channel (completely different format) and I will be posting here in the Multimedia section. I hope you guys like it better than my previous video :)

I have a did gold chain and I only clean it when it starts to look like an oem black chain. To clean I use a combination of simple green degreaser, a brush and mineral spirits to avoid degrading the x-rings or o-rings. I do this with the rear wheel removed as well. I only do this like once or twice a year.

I lube the chain every fill-up. So between 150-200km. I used to use yama-lube but recently switched to chian wax... noticing chain wax seems to harden and possibly loose some of its lubricating properties. Might go back to yama-lube.

For cleaning - Tirox Chain Cleaner. Spray can. Comes with a pair of latex gloves and a 360 degree brush.
For lubricating - Tirox Ultra Chain Lube. Also a spray can. Doesn't drip unlike other brands.

Quick and easy. No complaints.

Thanks, got my bike recently and looking for chain cleaning as well. This will prove useful!!!
