I would like to start a thread for Newbs.
So that they have a clue.

The worst thing I have seen lately is cleaning of visors.
Brand new helmet, ruined because first bugs are scrapped across the visor.

Then the visor is crap and you hate riding at night because of all the scratches making halo's around car lights.

How to clean a visor.

Hold visor under warm water with bugs still there. Let bugs soak for a minute.
Then wipe with palm of hand.
Wipe dry with toilet tissues or Kleenex.

Don't ride with experienced riders, trying to keep up.

Another tip is never ever use an alcohol based cleaner with an iridium visor. It will strip it. This includes cleaning fluids at gas stations

OH, forgot to add.
Never let other people try on your helmet. If they have a bigger head than yours, the foam will compress to conform to the bigger head, and will never fit you properly again.

So, if I try on a helmet at a shop, and it's too small, it's ruined? :lmao:

Well, listen, I have had perfectly fitting helmets. Somebody grabbed it, and tried it on. It never fit me after.
It's happened at least 3 times to me.

What ever. Do you let random people put your helmet on?

Just trying to hand out some friendly advice.
I wear an XS helmet. Most people's heads are Medium to Large.

Do NOT do that. That is how you get scratches.
Keep a small piece of a micro fiber cloth with you.
Add water and clean off, wet visor first to soften the bugs up.
If you are home make mix of white vinegar and water to clean visor with.
Use pledge to clean visor with.

Do NOT use windex on your visors or helmet.

Clean helmet with micro cloth and water or vinegar water mix or pledge.
Don't use chemicals on your gear, it will weaken them or damage them.

NEVER ride a new bike home or get new tires installed on a rainy day.
It's like riding on ice. You likely to go boom.

Do clean new tires with warm soapy water (dish soap) to remove that slick layer.

No good deed goes unpunished around here.

By the time the ammonia in the windex causes any problems, it would have been time for a new helmet for other reasons... don't use it every day but it is a bit of a red herring....

Plexus and a micro-fibre cloth.

That's guaranteed to keep your helmet from expanding when others with bigger heads try it on...

Just don't use Plexus on the inside of the helmet if you also use a Pinlock visor.

The biggest rookie mistake, as far as I'm concerned, is thinking that you're going into a corner too hot and nailing the brakes. It's a hard habit to break and will frequently result in a rider meeting the guardrail, as the bike stands up and runs wide.

Rookies need to make sure they use the right oil and chain lube for their bikes.

I pick my pledge right off the pledge tree in my backyard.
