bicycles! Teach me what I need to know!!!

Agree with what's being said for the most part, bike fit is most important. FullMotoJacket will know what you need given his posted past experience and bike collection. Suspension is a non-issue at this point, set a firm budget and get a good fitting bike. For your stated price the component spec level may be similar but given components in good working condition your frame fit is priority one along with a good saddle (not the gel junk that gets sold at Walmart/Can tire). Of course factor in where you will ride, how intense.....etc. You will be surprised where roadie type bikes can go off road and vice versa what mtb bikes can do on road given a quick tire change.

You'd figure, eh? I sent him a PM with pics of a rarely used 20" GT Karakoram I picked up to cannibalize the parts group, but changed my mind. Made in the US True Temper frame, LX/DX component mix, Araya CR-7 rims. Throw on a pair of almost new pair of Bontrager Select tires on that are hanging in the rafters, and at a 34" inseam it should fit him good. I've got $175 into it, and would want to break even. Never heard back.

i bought a front suspension bike from sport chek 3 months ago and i'm very happy with it. i paid $349 and it was on sale from $500.

anywho, it does have front forks which are "decent". mind you, this is a commuter bike and not meant for any serious offroading.

DO NOT buy front suspension bikes from CT or Walmart, that front fork is garbage...PURE garbage...i made that mistake once and never again.

disk brakes were decent, but this thing travels at 60km/h+ regularly so i upgraded to 180mm disk and hydraulic front brakes.

swapping tires is just another 50 bucks away for the pair to go to hybrid style tires. that shouldnt stop you from buying a bike which has all your other needs.

gt still does the triple triangle? cool! I never put a lot of stock on that design. that looks like a great bike.

It's 20 years old. Spent 19 1/2 years hanging in the rafters of someone's garage collecting dust. It's like new, but too big for me.

Always been fond of GTs. Time for a family photo.

They sort of still do the triple triangle design, although you really have to squint to make it out through all the carbon fiber.
