Best Way to Sell Bikes in GTA?

I was wondering if I could get some advice from the forum members. My wife and I are looking to sell our motorcycles, unfortunately our lifestyle has changed and we have had very little opportunity to ride them (which is a shame). Do you think it is best to sell on consignment at a dealer? Or advertise on the web? Just looking for a little advice from those that have done it. I'm concerned about advertising, and then having to deal with a lot of bs from buyers that aren't serious. My bike is a 2008 Ducati 1098s with 1800km, and hers is a 2008 ZX-6R with 1300km. Both bikes are perfect/mint. Thanks in advance for your advice. Cheers.

post on the forum, classified section

also kijiji...dont bother will dealers

you will get more money doing it yourself...and those bikes will fly out if you post them now...RIGHT NOW

Also you will get what you want for them no question.

the 08 zx6, if its all stock will probably fetch 7000$ for those low kms. Hope thats what you were expecting.
I just sold mine recently...16000 KM's and tons of mods for $6800

the 1098 id guess 12000 or so? anyone want to confirm that?

Those are brand new bikes! Too bad I'm not in the market for a duc yet.

I've not done it with bikes, but I've done it with cars.

You can go both routes, but there are pros and cons to either methodology:

Public Sales Channels e.g. Kijiji
Pros - lots of eyeballs seeing your offer
Cons - lots of eyeballs seeing your offer that require effort to weed out the wannabes from the real buyers i.e. lots of work for you

Reputable Dealer
Pros - someone else is doing the work for you
Cons - someone else is doing the work for you and they want to get paid $$$$ for it

To be honest here Clax, it really boils down to what you are willing to tolerate - some loss of the profits (with potentially a longer selling cycle) as represented by doing it on consignment versus possibly a quicker deal but having your privacy invaded by all manner of online crazies.

Again, I've gone both routes and ultimately I've decided that private sale via things like Craiglist, Kijiji, etc. are better for me due to the fact that I've got thick enough skin to deal with the 'tards who inevitably pop out of the wood work when private buying and selling is concerned.

You'll probably lose a combined $5000 if you sell to a dealer.

Kijiji dude, keep more of that money in your pocket, almost ride season too, you could get some decent cash for urself with those two bikes right before it starts, especially the duc man I've been wanting one for dog years

Depend on who he finds - but it is feasible that he may have to fork out that much cash, yes (in my case it was a couple of % points on the sale of the car, which included stuff like costs associated with the car being showcased in their showroom, car and security, etc.).

I'm guessing if he gets lucky, he could find someone willing to take in or around (maybe even under) the $3k mark, based on the quality of the bikes i.e. they appear to be easy sales and some people factor that into the whole "they won't clutter my showroom" (there's always room for negotiation).

To the OP: yes, $5k could be what you may pay for it - you need to do your homework and shop around.

post kijiji worst case scenario if it doesn't sell within a month take $1000 off both bikes asking price. People will call you instantly. And you still make more then if you did consignment

Sell the duc to me for $6000; I will come by to pick it up today.

HAHA! See, ya didn't even have to venture out to Kijiji to find those individuals I was talking about in my post...

I wouldnt go to a dealer. GP offered to help me sell my bike. They offered me $1500 for it. Its worth $4000.

This is obviously a for sale post in itself.

The only advantage to going to a dealer is there's a person standing in front of you with the money to buy our bike right there at a negotiated price. But they're intent is to sell it again, so you'll never get the value of the bike because the dealer wants to flip it too. With private sale it may take longer, (but judging by the attention on this post now I doubt it) but more money goes in your pocket, but u gotta be extra careful when it's private sale or purchase as well, lots of shady people out there :)

Wow...thats really to bad for both of you don't ride anymore! Defenitely try kijiji and this forum, you might find the right buyer for those two beautifull bike in a matter of time.

Wow, thanks for the number of helpful responses. Thanks for sharing the pro's and con's of the different approaches. Maybe I will start by putting out a few ads myself, and see where that takes me. Thanks again.
