Best way to get rid of junk

I am moving to a much smaller place in downtown and looking to get rid of all the furniture and junk that couldn't sell (or picked up for free) on kijiji.

I will already have a truck rented from Uhaul for moving, and wondering if I should just load all the junk and drive to a city drop-off location, or just call 1-800-got-junk.. Any suggestions? Which one is cheaper? Is the price difference worth the effort?

Actual junk? Or usable stuff? Contact Clothesline (diabetes charity) they may have use for some of it.
Also search ReStore.
GotJunk will charge you a fee.

I know in TO you can leave big pieces of furniture out for collection. Got rid of a massive Ikea dresser that way. Too old and wonky to give away.

These are not going on kijiji even though listed for free, so I'd say they fall under "junk" category. I have some really random stuff too - stock exhaust for FZ6, suspension springs, two pieces of couches, desk, chairs, electric heaters, floor lamps, shades, coffee tables, vacuum cleaner, and so on.

The city charges by weight, which is relatively cheap, so I'm leaning on that route as opposed to using a company.

Curb is not really an option, as I have a lot of stuff to get rid of. Don't want to be the cause of the junkyard visuals on my last day in this neighborhood :)

Was doing some reno with my dad and his cube van...filled out the van with wood, garbage, and whatever we could and went to one of the dumps near Kipling and Queensway...they weighed the truck going in...weighed it coming out...$20 total for all the junk!

Went a different time and the empty weight was 100kg different than the day before...but still cost $20 so I'm happy.

In that case, anything metal can be brought to a recycling yard. Use that $ that you get to pay for the dump fees on the rest of it.
Where are you moving to?

What suspension springs?

My choice as well. There are about three yards on Shorncliff Rd and I think one is even open Sundays. They don't take hazardous or bio but it's easier than the city yard.

Here you just put it at the bottom of the driveway the day before garbage day, and it somehow mysteriously vanishes.

I just remembered that 3M metals (Recycler) is now at Shornclifff and North Queen. So drop off the scrap metal and then the junk further north.

The Arizona yard on shorncliffe will also tak metal but no pay you or it. They just separate it while you take a out. It's where we always go as it's cheap . Close get there early on Saturday and no lineups.

Perfect - this is what I wanted to confirm. Thanks.

What suspension springs?

FZ6 stock springs for the front, used. I inherited these when I bought the bike.

Where are you moving to?

University & College area.

The city dump should be cheap and easy to get rid of stuff.

here in peel - $1/10kg charge. You just drive up to the scale - toss stuff over the wall into bins and off you go to get re-scaled.

1000lbs of trash = $100 free. Im sure the 1-800-got-junk ppl will charge way more.....

You could go this route instead.

Post it on Kijiji as Mint and Never dropped

I would put the metal on the curb, it goes very fast--usually hours (scrappers).

The other stuff is best just to rent a truck and take it to either the city dump or a private one. Truck rental plus dumping fee will be way cheaper than the services, at least in my experience.
