gear is a very subjective discussion
my current setup is Olympia stuff
textile jacket that's mostly mesh
very nice in hot temps
includes a wind/rain layer
that can go inside or outside the jacket
pants are also textile but more durable and include outer rain pants
best combination I've used so far
but some riders won't like it
need to buy gear until have the hall closet is full of it OP
then you'll know what's right for you

I've given up on rain liners worn on the inside. It's just too much hassle to stop and remove the outer jacket, install the rain liner, then put the whole thing on again. A rain jacket like the Scott one used by Scorpion above, or the REV 'IT Cyclone is much easier, inexpensive, and effective.
If it's a cooler day, and you begin the ride with the rain liner already installed, it makes much more sense.
As for pants, a rain liner worn on the inside is even worse. Do you really want to be pulling off your pants at the side of the road? Over pants are a hassle, too. For pants, I'll only use Gore-Tex. There's never any fuss, just close the vents and ride on. Expensive, but well worth it, I reckon.

Same - when I do my long runs, I keep a rain shell in the saddlebag.
I have a scorpion jacket that has like 30234502345293023058234905 liners inside, but to secure/remove them is more effort than my shell.
Same with my JRocket pants - just dry fit underneath if on long runs, and the outer panels come off so they're 'mesh' and breathe. The liners are far from waterproof since they do soak through after awhile, esp at the knees, but in summer I don't care, cuz they dry pretty quick while riding.
But again, rain shell in bag, so I dont' typically ride for long in that gear.
Me too. I think they were the worst pair of gloves I have ever owned. They were cold weather gloves that did nothing but give me frostbite, so I called them The Big Hurt.
They are both good. I have been using Airglides for over 7 years and very happy with them as 3 season gear.

I recently bought a Frogg Toggs jacket (mentioned earlier) and have been caught out in the rain a few times, and it works fine. However, I find it don't pack-down too small, eats up a lot of space in my tank bag.
My buddy who has a Scott's rain jacket (like the yellow one posted), has zero complaints, and it takes up minimal space.
If I was to buy again, I'd go with the Scott's

‘First Gear - Sierra’ rain gear will hold up to any amount of rain I've been in. I’ve been using that in heavy downpours for 6 days straight and never a leak.

Haven't been caught in a big storm yet, hopefully I won't be anytime soon.
I've always been paying close attention to those lying weather people, well until recently, that's why I bought a rain jacket, said F it, gotta ride and just be prepared...somewhat anyways.
I have a Frank Thomas jacket and it's great for cold and wet, but the ventilation is for **** - 22 degrees and up and I am sweating. I have a FT Aqua rain suit, but it's just a PITA to get back into the pouch. and yeah, had the rain suit for AGES - takes me back too.
FWIW, I picked up some Alpinestars gear. A Bogota Drystar jacket and a pair of Alpinestars BRYCE Gore-Tex pants. I'll be looking for rain the next time I get the chance.
Now I just need to figure out how to waterproof my wrists. What do people do - duct tape or gauntlets inside the sleeves?

no, that's not true. And besides, I'm looking for 4 season gear that keeps you dry but doesn't make you sweat your ass off in the dry. On a sunny day, it sucks getting wet.
