Best sport touring bikes for long distance

If the Multistrada 950 is in the running, maybe also consider a Hyperstrada 939 (or even 821). It's a touring version of the Hypermotard, and the rumor is that it was killed off because it was eating into Multistrada sales.

The main downsides are the overall small size if you're a bigger rider, and lack of wind protection even with the stock windshield. Upsides are that it's a Hypermotard, and prices are low on the used market. I've been pretty impressed with mine, done full day rides and never felt beat up unless I was droning on the highway at over 130 for hours at a time holding on from the wind blast.
its an amazing bike no doubt, but the dirtbike like seat and less wind protection likely disqualify it
Took it for a demo, its so much fun, its like the MT09 but with even more character and way better brakes

All new bikes are great, I've rode on many different ones and I've liked them all. Sometimes it boils down to the dealer that you feel good with. You want to make sure warranty work is done etc. I've bought on price alone and have been mad at myself a few seasons down the road when something goes wrong or you need parts and they send you to the dealer you know you should've bought from in the first place. It seems like you really get around so maybe a solid network would have some value also. How's that for a party pooper!

Going to stay away from the V-Strom - been riding those for 13 years and time for a change.

The Connie 14 might be a bit bigger than I want, but I'll still look into it.

Thanks - I never even knew this bike existed - looks really nice.

I would like something that I can play in the slower technical roads very well. So maybe the FJR isn't the best, but my first glance at the newer Versys 1000's make me think they are a good fit.

Really like this bike too. I dislike some of the aesthetics on the fairings, but that is a small thing.

I have a silver one on order. I had a 2019 Tracer GT...if you have any questions about these bikes, feel free to ask or PM me.

Cheers

Rob

did you trade the 2019 in at apex? 14k kms?

I like the Tracer 900 or Tracer 9 for 2021.
The 2021 model has some additional bells and whistles vs the previous years BUT it is more pricey and I actually prefer the esthetics of the Pre-2021 models.

That ideally is also my next bike unless I get convinced otherwise.
After reading through some groups and forums, it is a well made bike that checks off all the boxes.

It is. And that triple engine is a stonker! Torque, torque, torque. And it sounds so sweet!

I really like the Ninja 1000, but ignored it because it looks like it's a bit less upright than I wanted. Maybe I have to sit on one to see.

Really like that look, but might be a bit out of my price range.

The Ninja 1000 is pretty upright. But not quite as much so as the Tracer etc.
This site is getting a bit long in the tooth, and it doesn’t have too many late model bikes, but it might be helpful:

That MV is at least double your budget. When I spoke to the guy at Sturgess Cycle about it...I almost choked when he told me the price.

Thats the same one, I messaged that guy before buying the superduke, I never heard back from him.

The 2020 and before tracer GTs come with cruise control, up only quickshifter, heated grips, luggage, a windshield, and that amazing triple

The 2021 GT comes with all that, an IMU, electronic suspension, and a BI-directional quickshifter

They have also bumped the price of the 2021 GT's up accordingly.
Still cheaper than a multistrada and amazing value

And slightly larger engine with a bit more HP and torque.
Although the new Euro 5 compliant exhaust likely makes it moot.

Redesigned frame, including swing arm mount...lighter and stronger spin forged wheels, and you can actually mount the side cases (which hold a full face helmet now) and a top case. The previous iterations weren’t designed for both at once.

MV Agusta Turismo veloce,..if this picture doesn’t get your pee pee fluffy no bike will
Not sure I want fluffy wizz but I KNOW I don't like the look of that. But hey ride your own ride....

@ReSTored
How do you like the seat on the Tracer? From my research that seems to be 1 of the 2 biggest complaints. The the other being the windscreen.
Biggest complaint about the stock seat is that it is not comfortable, and the factory comfort seat isn't any better.

To be honest, I never found the stock seat on my 2019 GT too bad.
I’m usually a order the aftermarket seat as I buy the bike kind of person, but I didn’t feel the need to with this bike.

I’ve done all day rides over 5–6 days in PA without issue.

If I understood you right, are you saying that the 2020 and earlier models of the Tracer GT were configured so that a top box and side cases could not be on the bike all at the same time?

If so, is that due to the height of how the side cases sit and the distance between them, or was it something else?

Rear subframe weight restriction.
Many riders do it any way, but some have had the subframe crack.
And as Yamaha tells you not to, you’re SOL.

Anyone here ride a R1250RS? Wonder how it compares to the FJR I ride now. Don't see many around.

I suspect its because in large measure the sport touring segment has been hijacked by the adventure touring segment

We had a R1200ST (previous gen RS) and I rode an older FJR1300 (back when it was a 5-speed), the seating position is more aggressive on the ST/RS. It's a sport-tourer vs sporty-touring, if that makes any sense. The R1250 engine pulls just fine on my GS and it's 15 lbs heavier than an RS. Not sure how it compares to a current gen FJR.

I test rode one a few years ago.
I absolutely love everything about that bike. Except the boxer engine.
I know, I know...blasphemy!
Just can’t get with the tractor-like qualities of it.
I think they’ve improved it, but I haven’t ridden that version yet...and the price tag....

would probably be a good option if you want a more torquey experience compared to the XR. Not sure about the pillion experience.

beautiful looking bike tho
