Best Post Ever?

To me it just makes sense. Canadians are smart. We have some of the best Schools and people. Pump some cash into REAL research into sustainable energy. Not just putting up a windmill at Exhibition Place or installing some cheap Chinese solar panels

Justin pledged $300 million a year for R&D on clean energy technologies for Bill Gates fund. Where is that money going - Redmond and US jobs.

Why not just invest it in Waterloo. Canadian ideas and Canadian jobs for a part of the province that's been hit hard by RIM's decline.

No we don't and that's the sad truth. Compared to the US it's as if Canadians get 50 cents to complete a research project and pay for staff (actually many of the largest grants don't even have staff wages accounted for) whereas the US gets $20 for the same thing. You get the picture. This is the reason why the US pumps out more (valuable) research. The whole approach here is nuts at times, CFI grants are some of the largest and are infrastructure grants to buy fancy equipment and facilities but because the grants don't cover tech staff wages for the upkeep and training on the equipment this sometimes results in rooms full of equipment sitting gathering dust. Totally nuts.

I already did. 2 weeks after JT was elected.

I figure I have a year and two months until "The Don" becomes President then I don't know what I'll do. Maybe Bangkok, and I'm being serious. I could probably get a little house in Phuket and live quite comfortably for the rest of my life
lol yea because Trump will be so much better :)

I have lived in many countries and continents, this one is still one of the best ones out there.

Born Canadians are spoiled and ***** about stuff they know nothing about.

I'm in agreement that something has to be done.

Most people are, but the moment it requires a compromise we all plug our ears.

Human nature, to pollute or not agree on consensus, the two things we are great at. You simply cannot win .... don't do anything, bad ... do something, bad as well.

Amen to that. Funny thing is if Canada did suffer from excess global warming it'd be perfect :) I wouldn't mind being able to grow bananas in my back yard, the winter is the only thing that really pisses me off about Canada.

Not really how global warming works. The warming is for the entire planet. It is possible that the warming has an impact on things like the jet stream, ocean currents, etc. and maybe some places actually get colder. The average for the planet is up, some places get colder and many more get much warmer.

That is why some say climate change not warming, it is more accurate. The problem with the term warming is that some people will say, hey look it is colder this year the science is a lie, well it is colder where that person is due to my first paragraph.

Of course if we think refugees are a problem today, wait until places become uninhabitable due to extreme heat or rising oceans. Climate refugees will be a big thing in the future.

Why would Government and business provide a solution then they are and will be making $$$$$ from taxes and fees?
It's a maintenance plan.

How much R&D do you need to make a very efficient vehicle?
They knew how to do do this since the 60-70's.

The planet will be fine, pollute away. Just like your body when it is being attacked by the flue, it heats up, kills the virus, and you recover.
Planet will heat up or cool down and shrink our population...planet keeps spinning and evolving.

It's been doing this its entire existence, and will continue to do so even after us.

If we lived back during the last (not only btw) ice age would we be freaking out when the planet started to warm up?

I don't want to move to a "developing" country. Maybe I am missing something.

If you leave, make sure you go to a better country than this one.
What do you have in mind?
Looking into it. Somewhere slightly more right winged & less populated

Terrorism and regional instability are bigger immediate threats to us all. These leaders should be focusing on that, not carbon credits and the like.

If climate change does result in the conditions forecast (rising ocean levels, droughts and famines etc) it's going to make the current refugee problem in Europe (and elsewhere...) look like small potatoes.
