Best airbags of 2024

How long ago was this?

The In&Motion system was sold in Europe for a year or two before it came here, and RST retailers here (e.g. Moto World) weren't allowed to sell them. (Legal issues?)

I think they are past this. Call Paul Attwood at Moto World.

I don't think there's such a thing as a "Canadian" box or an "EU" box - I suspect the hardware is all the same, and any distinctions are made via your account settings and software (and GPS signal - it knows where it is).

Part of the set-up and registration process for In&Motion, in my case, involved entering a serial number from my RST suit. I tend to suspect the box is tied to the garment and serial number of what you bought it for. I don't know the ins and outs - or particularly, the whys.

I would encourage anyone who bought one of these in Europe during the period of unavailability in Canada, thus geofenced, to get in touch with In&Motion, either directly or via a Canadian retailer, to see what can be done.
As per him he tried to get in touch with all parties, including Moto World. No dice.

i've crash tested the Hit-Air once and quickly switched over to Astar TechAir race, its been a solid system and has less reported issues than the models that came after it.
Where did you test the hit-air and what was the issue?

Just a quick heads up for anyone with an AStars unit, apparently Riders Choice in Mississauga is now a certified airbag service shop. Mine is well over two years old now, time for a check-up...

I'd be very surprised if MotoWorld would help, as he didn't buy through them. I bought my Alpinestars unit (from FC-Moto in Germany) about three years ago, and part of the reason I avoided the Klim In&Motion unit at the time was it wasn't clear if the system could be activated in Canada. But it's all good now, and I'd be very surprised if they wouldn't take his money. I just checked, and it seems FC-Moto is happy to ship a variety of airbags to Canada, so it doesn't seem like there's regional protection...

FYI, for those with a TechAir5 (and possibly other models) who don't regularly connect to it with the phone app, there's a new software update available. Not sure what it addresses, but it installed fine.

SMP turn 14 high side. the inner tube ripped when I was sliding on the pavement
Sucks that it was one-and-done, but did it at least do its job and did you walk away? This was one of my concerns about an external airbag system. And the ability to cheaply refill it yourself is meaningless if you have to buy a new one anyways.

yeah I walked away unhurt, but that was an expensive race weekend

How you be sure an under jacket vest has enough room to expand inside your jacket?

Your safest bet is to buy a jacket from the same company as the airbag. Alpinestars also provides guidance on how much room to make sure you have if it's not one of their jackets and doesn't have the expansion panels built-in.

After dropping nearly 2 large on Klim jacket and pants I'm committed. Guess I'm looking at over jacket versions.

In & Motion (the makers of airbag systems in the Klim, RST etc. vests) have a guide here to help determine if your current jacket(s) will fit.
Personally I use the Klim vest and I have been buying Alpinestars jackets that they label "Tech Air compatible".

The Klim vest would fall under the "essential" module section in the link above.

Cool, I didn't realize that In&Motion has two versions of their electronics - "Essential" and "Performance". Performance appears similar to the TechAir5 with shoulder and rib coverage.
