i want to get my kids into dirt bike riding.

which is the best 50cc to go with, yamaha or honda?

which would be easier to maintain? im new to riding also so still not familiar with anything other than oil changes.

anyone put their kids in a learn to ride program? how was it? worth the money?

thanks

XR50! Oil changes and you cant kill them. My 3 younger sisters all learned to ride on one that had probably been through 30+ riders, and is still strong enough for me to boot around on for kicks

I started on a 1975 Honda Z50 when I was 5 years old. It's the only honda that I've ever owned but it's been abused by 3 generations and is still kicking now. I'm not sure you can go wrong with either tho.

PS. My 'learn to ride course' consisted of a run down of the controls from my dad and summers of trial and crash. They're slow and low to the ground. Deck them out in gear and let them have fun.

Any of the Honda 50's are bulletproof, but any Suzi, Yamaha ect would be ok. Avoid the chinese knockoffs unless your handy, or would like to become handy.

If it starts easily for kids and the brakes work, everything else will just follow along.

My first was a QA50 honda, we beat the crap out of that bike, the build quality was awesome. $479.00 brand new 1969.

Don't know about the yammy, I had a friend actively try and kill a CT50 and failed. It started 2nd kick after not being used for 5+ years (with the old gas still in it), it got driven into a pond WFO and started up easily after it was winched out. It was amazing.

I put a few thousand km on that bike one summer and never had an issue with it. The brakes and suspension are not entirely happy with a 170lb rider but I am sure they would be much happier with a lighter rider.

Honda's are bullet proof.
Best is to take the kids to MotoPark in Chatsworth ...you don't say how old the kids are.
There are very very few legal off road riding areas so do your homework before you fork out money.
