Best 12 Volt Adaptor?

Princess Auto has them. I got a USB one from there for like $7. no complaints with it.

+1 woot.. Princess Auto

If anyone purchases this I would strongly recommend not using the "tap" connectors and also add in a fuse to the positive lead. Not doing either of those spells disaster to me and you risk a fire.

I personally have the Princess Auto one for $6.99+tax with a 15a ASA fuse.

Apparently that unit has a self resetting fuse in it.

What I did was, I took that USB power outlet, and then soldered a 2-way SAE adapter to the end. That way it plugs into my battery tender. Tested and works well enough to charge my Garmin Nuvi and a Blackberry 10. My other phone didn't like it but I guess because it's only 0.5-1amp and that other phone has seen better days. easy enough install. Total cost? $10 and a couple beers :D

FYI the one i got from princess auto is a 1amp judging by how quickly my phone charges
I used my multimeter to load test the one I bought from princess auto and it's only 0.5 amps :( My GoPro with battery bacpack kept tripping the automatic fuse or overheating it or whatever, it'd charge for a bit, stop, charge for a bit, stop, eventually it would drain the battery faster than it was charging it :(

No problems with the dual 2.1amp one I listed above!! Woot for fast charging my iPod/track timer :)

Turns out the O.P. was asking about just a 12v socket, for him to plug in car like adapters, so I would recommend this one from princess auto: http://www.princessauto.com/pal/product/8450025/12v-Accessories/12V-Socket-Adapter

I got this from Princess Auto ($5.99) and made 2. One for me, one for my friend. Just make sure you wire the terminals properly and you're set.

I'm sure there are better connectors out there, but this was at the store when I picked up the USB Weatherproof thing. (in the trailer section if you're looking for it: http://www.princessauto.com/pal/product/8198137/Connectors/adapters/2-Way-12-in.-Trailer-Harness)

I found a SAE connector on the side of the road when I was out walking one day ;)

I cleaned up the contacts with a fiberglass pencil and will solder and heat shrink the connection.

Jamie, you have a good point there about amperage. I have the princess auto one and use it for my phone. I havent yet connected a gopro charger I have to it.. doing to have to check the load and see if I should get a cigarette lighter adapter also.

$30 for shipping... That's a little rough.
Yeah, I ordered a bunch and split the shipping with friends, even 8 of them was still $30 for shipping :) Yeah, it's so hard to figure out what the amperage is on the USB. Once I found one with dual 2amp ports I ordered it :(
