Benefits of CAA Premier

I starting thinking of this the other day when I read MacDoc's description of what happened last weekend (his shredded tire incident).

I do not work for and am not affiliated with CAA in any way, but do you guys know about CAA Premier membership?

Basically, over and above CAA Plus, Premier has built in coverage for trip interruption including breakdown ($600 coverage) and vehicle return service ($500 coverage).

Now, I haven't had to use this coverage yet... but having coverage for breakdown or getting my bike home when over 200km is reassuring to me. I have used CAA plus in the past for a bike breakdown, and while I waited a while for the truck, a flatbed did show up eventually and got me home.

Oh... and if any of you are not CAA members and want to join, consider using my referral link: https://caasco.sparkrefer.com/19TfeFnm If you use that link you will get $10 CAA dollars or two movie tickets and I will get $20 CAA dollars or movie tickets.

Do you recall how much the premiere is?

I pay around $140/year including tax. I use a CAA Mastercard though, so I usually pay for the whole thing with the bonus points from the card.

I'm told CAA is good anywhere in the world which is excellent for me since I'm in Aus 3 months riding. Think I will upgrade.
Thanks

Well for me it might have meant paying my extra motel night and getting the bike back to Canada instead of repaired in the US

What does trip interruption and return vehicle benefit do?

Well, CAA Plus covers towing for up to 200km, and provides accident coverage if you are on a trip.

So what happens if you are more than 200km from home and your vehicle breaks down (not in an accident)?
With Premier it seems as though they will cover up to $600 for costs related to a break down (repairs, hotels, etc) and/or up to $500 toward having your vehicle returned to home if you are more than 200km from home.

For my up coming trip to the James Bay, for example, this could be extremely useful. For example, if I blow out a tire in Radisson and have to wait 2 days to have a new one expedited there, the $600 trip interruption will certainly help towards the costs of the hotel for the extra nights and the expedited shipping costs. It may not cover 100%, but better than nothing!

You could always carry extra tires.

Not very practical for the bikes that are going and needed spare fuel as well as even a small amount of gear.

CAA is insurance. You pay a bit each year instead of getting a big hit every once in a while. FWIW I have probably spent $1200 over the years and the only time I called them was to change a tire on my van. That's because the van comes with a POS jack.

I could have $1200 sitting in my bank account waiting for that tow. Risk / reward.

Becareful , when I came to ontario and asked about my NZAA Being valid here CAA said it was not.

Oh and I have used premier CAA a few times to tow my bike to dealerships due to flat tires. You can get the plus membership and upgrade for a cheap rate just before you go on a trip. Then next renewal date drop back to plus if you have no long range travel plans

I have had CAA premium for years. Last year, I broke down on HWY 16, just north of South Wales where it becomes 400 in New York. Happened just before noon on a Sunday. Called CAA (AAA) and was told help would arrive in 45 minutes. It was very very hot!!

I was able to get to the Blakely overpass to get some shade. a Guy in a pickup came by and told me it would be a couple of hours because the flatbed was on a call. He offered me a ride back to town to wait, but I didn't want to leave the bike

Well, about 2 hours later the flatbed arrived and took me to the border at the Peace Bridge. The guy couldn't have been nicer and we yaked until the Canadian CAA truck would meet us at the border. The CAA guys in Canada were from Welland, but their trailer (enclosed) was in St. Catherines. So the CAA guys had to drive from Welland to St. Catherines to get the trailer and then back to the American side of the Peace Bridge. The AAA driver waited with me the entire time - would not think of letting me go until the CAA guys relieved him. (You don't get that service from anywhere!!!) Oh!! and I'm diabetic and needed to get some food - had exhausted my orange juice and biscuits. Asked the driver if I could get a bite and he got off the I-90 so I could get a burger and coke. Then back on the road to the Peace Bridge to wait for CAA. Great guy huh?

When the CAA guys arrived, around 3:30 pm, They told me they don't carry bikes on flatbeds anymore, but use the enclosed trailer for insurance reasons etc. etc.

Said good-bye to the AAA guy and got home near 7:00 pm in Markham. That's 315 kms folks. Figure that one service call paid my premium card twice!

Never looked back and would never be without two things. CAA and a cell phone.

Wow, thats great service. You guys have me thinking I need to upgrade my membership from Plus to Premier. I'm often riding more that 200km away from home so the up tick to 320km (albeit 1 tow only) and $600 trip interruption could come in handy ~ next trip I'm upgrading.

I've been a paying member for too many years to count now and can't remember the last time I called for service before running out of gas near Orangeville this summer (6km from town :p)

Well thanks to my 11 hour ordeal in Pennsylvania I got my excess tow money back ( there should not have been )...$44 US and a free upgrade to Premiere
Thanks CAA :D

Cell phone useless without a signal....GPS/offline map app at least you can tell where you are and get someone driving by relay your location to AAA or CAA.
WOnder how they handle that.
